Just for playing around the house, or if a buddy comes over. Any suggestions?

I'd be using one of these with it:

. . . and it's for blues, jazz, rock, and pop type music.

I've been very happy with a Kustom 30w combo I picked up.

Sounds very nice ( stock Eminence speaker), but there are two things about it I want to tweak: can't defeat the notch circuit, and there's a sharp pop when you power it off.

Roland Bass Cube. Fender Bronco (bass equivalent of Mustang guitar modelling amp). Small Fender Rumble.

Do keyboard amps make decent bass amps? I see them pop up now and again on craigslist for pretty cheap . . .

The EQ for keyboards is in the wrong bands to flatter a bass guitar. The HF horn (if present) can lend a nasty edge.

If you own a PA, a bass multi-effect pedal could serve as your pre-amp.

Roland Bass Cube.

I love my Roland Cubes! I also recommend SWR WorkingMan combos. I have a couple of them too.

On the plus side, keyboard amps can handle the low end a lot better than your average guitar amp. I wouldn't be opposed to using one if I didn't have a bass amp available.

And most horns have an off switch or volume dial somewhere. (I always turn them off.)

hmm probably not on the used market yet
and I havent tried one

but the new Peavey Viper Modeling amps
come with acoustic and bass amp models now

so theoretically you could plug in whatever you like
as the whim arises

I am waiting to see what these turn out to be

I suspect that I already know what the latest Peavey Vypyr amps will turn out to be. ;)

I have a Crate BX-15 15 watt bass amp. It's pretty good.
