Ooooh. Very nice. Too bad I hate black guitars. :smack:

Well I really don't like the black pickupcovers with black pickup look. Add a black body on top of it and its just looks weird to me. Maybe a new set of rings to break it up a bit and it will be fine.

I'll still have to check it out though. It would be nice to buy a guitar and not have to change anything major on it.

i'd be the first to suggest a used charvel or one of the natural series from the music zoo perhaps but they tend to be over the price range and 2 frets short.

as for the MII being all black...it's a metal guitar, what other color is there...LOL.

you could always swap over the hardware to chrome and just sell off the black stuff down the road if that matters to you...a thought.

I did a mock up in kieske and with some new pickup rings the look really improves.

This one is defiantly on my list to check out.

Keep them coming!

Re: Looking for a Metal Guitar

I don't think I would prefer an 80ties San Diemas and a reissue thereof (with bolt-on neck) to a current production SL1 or SL2 soloist. They are about the same money used thanks to the Soloists having bad resell value.

For cheaper ones with bolt-on neck I'd look into the Jackson DK2M Dinky.

Metal enough?

Re: Looking for a Metal Guitar

The 550 reissue is a limited guitar, so any place that is sold out will say "discontinued". There are still some out there in stores, and some on the bay.

$899 was street price on them with the matching case. The Desert Yellow and Road Flare Red are the hotter colors over the black.

I'll have to keep my eye out to see if any pop up around town.

This one would be perfect if it had a Maple fretboard. Grrr.

Basswood body, Floyd, Duncans (even one I havn't tried yet so that is a plus for me) and a really simple layout.

Re: Looking for a Metal Guitar

When at the local Ibanez dealer I asked why there were so few maple/maple RGs.

He told me that the character of the RGs was so shrill even with the rosewood fretboard that when you put a maple fretboard to the equation it became really screaming at the top and without enough bottom.

Just sth to consider but also take it with a grain of salt as he was at the time trying to sell me the black RG550 which had rosewood fretboard instead of the yellow that he didn't have and had maple...

Re: Looking for a Metal Guitar

Tough to beat the new Shecters for the cash, workmanship, features and they'll do Metal very well.

I fully agree but I've yet to see a Schecter with maple board plus, they only have a handful with a Floyd.

Which reminds me, perhaps you might want to check Swing guitars.
Relatively new Korean company and already the Fender equivalent at their country. I have played several models and I have to say that the only thing harder to believe than their quality is their price.

Personally I loved the EZ-10 and the Gon SE but for what you asked...
They have several with 22 frets and maple fretboard and 24 frets but only with rosewood fingerboard.

There is one however that has not Maple but Ebony fingerboard which should work just as well IMO, the K-1

Check it out if you want ;)

CheerS!

Re: Looking for a Metal Guitar

I suggest the ESP M-II like someone else did on this board. The current import Jackson is horrible. I've had a few over the past 2 years, and kept returning it, and selling it. Quality is not there like it used to. Also, the Ibanez RG550 re-issue's are another good one, but are limited and rare, so good luck finding one. The Paul Gilbert model to me, isn't a heavy metal guitar..it's definetly a shredders guitar, but the pickups aren't high gain. I've owned a PGM model, but wanted something with a higher gain. Hope this helps!
