Looking for a Metal Guitar

Re: Looking for a Metal Guitar

I suggest the ESP M-II like someone else did on this board. The current import Jackson is horrible. I've had a few over the past 2 years, and kept returning it, and selling it. Quality is not there like it used to. Also, the Ibanez RG550 re-issue's are another good one, but are limited and rare, so good luck finding one. The Paul Gilbert model to me, isn't a heavy metal guitar..it's definetly a shredders guitar, but the pickups aren't high gain. I've owned a PGM model, but wanted something with a higher gain. Hope this helps!
I suggested the MII, but what is wrong with the Jackson DK2M? It seems to be a well made guitar.

Re: Looking for a Metal Guitar

Looks a hell lot like the Carvin pointy!!! :9:

The V220 is basically the same shape in reverse. I don't like it nearly as much. The old Charvel/Tokai Random Star like on that ESP I think looks much better.

Re: Looking for a Metal Guitar

Aesthetically the ESP looks better but I think the other way round is the more ergonomically correct way, both for balance and arpeggio runs...

Re: Looking for a Metal Guitar

The Ibanez 1570 will not disappoint. It's fast, the tremolo is good, and it sounds awesome with a Mustaine Livewire set.

Re: Looking for a Metal Guitar

if i'd play metal, i'd gas for this one ...

available as 6 or 7string

Re: Looking for a Metal Guitar

I don't think I would prefer an 80ties San Diemas and a reissue thereof (with bolt-on neck) to a current production SL1 or SL2 soloist. They are about the same money used thanks to the Soloists having bad resell value.

For cheaper ones with bolt-on neck I'd look into the Jackson DK2M Dinky.

I wouldn´t be too sure, a real 80s San Dimas Charvel that hasn´t been heavily modded, refinished or massively abused will easily fetch more used than an SL-1 costs brand spanking new ;)

Are we going to have to go through the whole MAP pricing thing again? Just because you don't research your guitar prices doesn't mean that Jackson Soloists have bad resell. The resell is typically around 300-400 or so less than a new one on a typical production color. I'd hardly call that bad.

Re: Looking for a Metal Guitar

Which would you guys consider the better guitar, the Jackson DK2M or the ESP MII? I know they are both MIJ.

Re: Looking for a Metal Guitar

IMO an ESP MIJ doesn't have much in common with a Jackson MIJ since for the ESP an MIJ is the top of the line (custom shop excluded) while for Jackson it's a step down.
Plus, the Pro Series Dinkys have humongous heels, don't know about the MIIs but I'm guessing it should be better...

That said, I'd just go and play both and decide for myself. After all they are mostly identical spec-wise so it would be an easy comparison...

Re: Looking for a Metal Guitar

Yeah, the original ones were pointier, I was talking about the current ones, only mirrored

Re: Looking for a Metal Guitar

Nothing beats a Jackson SL series. To me, that is the ultimate metal guitar. If I had $1,800.00 laying around, I would snag an SL1 or SL2h for sure.

Re: Looking for a Metal Guitar

This one is only $600.00 with a Floyd original and Dimarzio Super Distortions!

Actually the orgional V220 that came out in 84 was the same body as the new reissues. Mine are not V220's but the ultra rare 90-93 X220's a MUCH different beast.
Here a is a shot of part of my former Carvin "pointy" collection.
IM000372.jpg

The two black ones on the front are the X's . They are shockingly light and weigh allmost NOTHING with the Poplar bodies. The two black ones are between 5 and 6 lbs. The pink reverse headstock 90 in the first photo is feather lightweight at just under 5 lbs. The V220's on the other hand are TANKS and in the 8.5-9.5 lbs range . A solid rock maple V220 is heavier than most Les Pauls. There is a BIG difference in the two guitars. The X220C is IMO the ULTIMATE hairband guitar!! I wish Carvin would reissue THEM with the ultra thin 24 fret 24.75 scale shreadder necks like on my Pink 90!!!

Holy crap this thread has blown up!

While I'm on break I will have to get around and start checking some stuff out.

Better than sleeping my time off away.

Re: Looking for a Metal Guitar

Nothing wrong per se, just no maple fretboard, no Floyd and no 24 frets.

Just not what he asked
