ok so about a year ago i bought a big muff. it was one of the black ones. i took it apart and broke it :smack:. rather than trying to fix it i am just gonna buy another big muff. wich muff should i get? the silver and red muff, the black muff, or the double muff?. there are so many muffs out there i just cant choose! :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

This whole post sounded really wrong didnt it. :smack:

IM A TONEOLOGIST
No seriously this thread is about a pedal called the fuzz pedal called the big muff. it is made by electro harmonix. davey you are such a perv! :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

Re: looking for a muff ;-)

my bassist uses a double muff... on "Muff 1" it gives it a little extra grind, almost like a cranked SVT sound. on "Muff 2" its got more balls that my Marshall. I might try out a double muff tomorrow... yes-fan you're from CT like me. I'm going to Guitar Center orange tomorrow night... I'll let you know how it is on guitar after i try it (If I remember to)

Re: looking for a muff ;-)

the NYC re-issue is still the best one ive heard, they aer making better muffs now than ever before. the silver black and red ones.

Re: looking for a muff ;-)

I have one of the earliest Big Muffs which I bought new in the early 70's. Killer singing sustained tones or dirty smooth grind even with chords...best 'fuzz' box that could really do the singing long notes well. When I statrted gigging again recently, it finally crapped out on me. So it went to the Electro Harmonix 'master tech' Ron Neely...he specializes in EH stuff. I thought I'd try out the 'new' Big Muffs before I sent it in, spent a day going to several shops and trying out the Muffs... :smack: nothing, and I mean NOTHING sounded remotely close to what my Muff used to...I was dumbfounded and even pissed that so many models of the 'same' pedal sounded like total crap. I sent it to Ron with a request to add a LED (I like those now) and it's just perfect now. His repair rates are very fair (he restored my script Phase 90 also) and he also builds new pedals...here's his take on the Big Muff...called the Hair Pie :laugh2: just to keep you perv's happy. I have'nt heard it, but since he's dialed into the EH tone thing, he seems to know how to make it better. Good luck Muff stompers.
PS: Although Ron does make pedals, it looks like his Hair Pie is a mod done to your pedal...I suppose he could build one, ask questions, he's very prompt with emails.

I have a black Sovtek Muff. Love it! I've jig-rigged a 9V adapter jack for it and it is probably my "main" pedal.

I've found that I can use it as a really cool sounding boost/compressor if I set it up just right, but that often involves turning my guitar volume way down. It adds just a touch of "hair" to the sound to really warm it up...I love my muff!
