Looking for a new DISTORTION pedal

Re: Looking for a new DISTORTION pedal

I really like my MXR Distortion III. Cheap and effective, durable.

Re: Looking for a new DISTORTION pedal

I really like my proco rat II, but I am gonna get a Keeley mod for it; I think I will like the Keeley Rat more than the original rat reissue I see on ebay for cheap

Re: Looking for a new DISTORTION pedal

Either Marshall Shredmaster or Guv'nor is next on my list. Too bad they've become expensive, although they do a good job of capturing JCM style Marshall tone! Since I don't have a Marshall at the moment, this is a very good thing. A BYOC version is about 1/2 of the price and may be the route I choose.

Re: Looking for a new DISTORTION pedal

Been digging my reissue Distortion Plus lately...BMF Great Wide Open is a blast, Purple Nurple too and it can get an almost fuzz like thing in the upper end of the drive...

Re: Looking for a new DISTORTION pedal

The custom 78 badass distortion from mxr I've heard nothing but good things about. If you wanna go ALL OUT and it's about the size of 2 mxrs put together, the metal shaman.

I have the 78, and yeah. It's total badass. That was my first thought when he needed an MXR sized distortion. Got my a few months ago for $80. Can't be beat. I've tried.

Re: Looking for a new DISTORTION pedal

I prolly wont get a nano pedaltrain for a few years, but if I did the distortion I would get at this point is the box of rock! small and great reviews.

Re: Looking for a new DISTORTION pedal

This dude makes fantastic pedals...

No frills demo:

$89 + free shipping from Thailand = no sweeter tone for the money :D

Re: Looking for a new DISTORTION pedal

I own the tc electronic Dark Matter distortion, lost of bottom end if that suits your tastes!

Re: Looking for a new DISTORTION pedal

Thanks, guys! Thus far it looks like the Distortion III will fill my needs. Am going to audition one when I get the chance.

Re: Looking for a new DISTORTION pedal

Meh...BA78 is OK, but nothing towritehome about. I would rather have a original MIJ DS1. I never much get along with the modded versions like the BA.

My reccos

Mad professor red distortion
mad professor stone grey
wampler sovereign
Hardwire valve distortion
MI crunchbox (mooer makes a clone)
whirlwind gold box

Re: Looking for a new DISTORTION pedal

Emma Electronica Reezafratzitz is a good pedal.

Wide gain range and also has a 'bias' control which chanegs the nature of the voicing of the pedal from slightly scooped-ish to more 'Vox-y' and everywhere inbetween.

Re: Looking for a new DISTORTION pedal

Mad Professor Golden Cello. it isn't great for everything, but it is can give a unique flavor to a certain song, depending on your style.

Re: Looking for a new DISTORTION pedal

Wampler Sovereign. Best from what I've tried so far imo. Lots of tonal options and not a bad sound anywhere on it.

Re: Looking for a new DISTORTION pedal

I *really* want to try a Walrus Audio Iron Horse. It sounds fantastic in the demos I've watched.
