Looking for a new pick up for my jack casady epiphone bass

Like the title say's im looking for a new pick up for my jack casady, people have raved about the sound from these basses. But i find mine really muddy with no ball's. Epiphone recon its output is 6K. Its a weird size humbucker measuring 80mm x 33mm, the only seymour pick up ive found that would fit would be either a single coil precision pick up (im guessing the 14.5K would be nice) or a rickenbacker replacement. Not sure how much difference it makes being a hollow body bass. Any suggestion's ?

Re: Looking for a new pick up for my jack casady epiphone bass

The combination of short scale and hollowbody is going to make the bass dark and mellow. Also the pickup is fairly specialized so I don't know what replacements exist?

Think it makes a bit of difference the bass is a normal 34inch scale. It has a humbucker at present that hasnt got a big output, im looking for something with a little more clarity.

thats a weird bass, not in a bad way, but its an odd ball.

does flipping the switch make any difference in how muddy it is?

I'm not sure you are going to find a replacement pickup so I would look into buying a parametric EQ.

Re: Looking for a new pick up for my jack casady epiphone bass

The switch does go from a weak sound to a slightly undefined boomier sound.

Quick thought.

If that Epi bass has an active pickup and/or EQ, the problem could just be a that the 9v pile needs replacing.

EDIT: I just checked the Epi website product description. It says low impedance pickup. Look for a battery compartment on the rear of the instrument.

Funk, I doubt that pickup runs on a battery. Those weirdo Gibson low z buggers in my old Grabber and LP Sig (basically the guitar version of that bass) didn't.

Parallel and series, respectively?

Re: Looking for a new pick up for my jack casady epiphone bass

My LP Sig also has a switch that does that, but it's 3 way and labeled something like 500-250-50 or some such. I don't know what it does, but it starts thin and weak and gains output and girth when I change from one end to the other. I have no idea what it does or how it works. Maybe preset output drops? I haven't played it since November and don't have it out here at sea but I'll check it out once I get home next month.

Found this via the interewbs.
Not sure if it helps, but there's a transformer??
