looking for a USA kramer pacer?

Erik. Being as it's an 88, I'd almost bet it's either alder or poplar. They used so dam much poly on them guitars, especially the grapic models, that it really added alot of weight to them. From what I understand, maple wasn't used all that often after 86. That's about the time the figured tops really started coming into play and it shot the price of maple up quite a bit.
That's what I'm finding out from reading all the info out there on the 80's models. It's bright as hell I know that, hence why the Custom Custom is the pefect pickup for it and the JB is too bright. I could really care less what it's made of, it's just nice to know, ya know. Man, I feel like a jackass about this...lol.

I wouldn't feel like a jackass about it. For the most ESP used whatever they had on hand or what was cheapest. So that makes most of them late issue Kramers a big ol bucket of WTF.

Since you're saying that a JB is too bright it, I'm thinking one of 2 things, either it's got a 500k pot in it or it's poplar. Poplar is alot brighter sounding than alder. It's more in line w/ Hard Ash and Maple tonewise.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the WTF bucket.....lol. So true. Find a hockeystick these days and it might be an early 90's model right before the sell off.

It does have a 500k pot in it. I know that for sure. When I got it, there was a tone pot in it too. Some jack had drilled a second hole real close to the volume, like on some of the Pacers. That didn't last long when I got it. A Baretta is supposed to be 1 volume only in my book.

Aye! :blackeye: I hate it when people go drilling holes in old Kramers. Especially the Kline grahpics.

Try a JB again and swap the 500K for a 250K. The JB was designed to be used w/ a 250K so that's where a good bit of your brightness could have been coming from.

I know. I cringed when I saw that was done but felt obligated to rescuing it from further abuse. It's been played that's for sure. If ya look at my avatar, you can see the place to the bottom left of the volume pot. It's just some round thing with a nut holding it on from the back. Found it at the hardware store.

I would do that but I don't have a JB anymore. Just sold my last one off. It wasn't the stock pickup, don't have that one either. The stock one was some low output POS. Not sure what. It wasn't the Schaller I know that. It sounds really nice with the CC in it though so I'm pretty set in leaving it like that.
