Looking for an Amp

Re: Looking for an Amp

The more recent Peavey Bandits have no earthly business sounding as good as they do.

Re: Looking for an Amp

I maintain that my late 90's Transtube Studio Pro was one of, if not THE most flexible amps I have ever encountered

Find an old Randall RG120ES.

Re: Looking for an Amp

See if Jeremy will part with his Bad Cat Cougar 50 combo. I wouldn't sell my Cougar 50 head. When it comes to stellar EL-34 high gain amps with a killer clean channel, it's the only inexpensive amp that rivals Friedman, Bogner, Splawn, etc. The Bad Cat Cougars are discontinued because the new owners didn't want a Chinese line distracting people from their $2500+ amps.

More likely they didnt want to be associated with the liability when that cheap chinese crap flakes out.

you might be right but ive had mine for a while and have had zero issues with it. its a great high gain amp with a beautiful clean channel

Re: Looking for an Amp

a marshall 2501 would be perfect for you if you can find it. dual master volume jcm900 50w 1x12 combo. basically one channel with two switchable masters. this is what lpb mentioned when i lamented the slx not having a 1x12 combo

I used one of the 2x12 versions of that amp (2502) on a gig a few years back. Good stuff.

Re: Looking for an Amp

Marshall 2501 ?!?!?!?!?!? 900 x 2 ????

What I would love is a 900 SLX

Re: Looking for an Amp

If no one has mentioned it, Peavey Ultra Plus. All tube. Good cleans. Nice crunch. Brutal, vicious distortion that doesn't lose focus or get too noisy. Half power switch. Very underrated amp. So versatile, dependable and great sounding.

The MKIII 2100s and 2500s and the SLX 2100s and 2500s are virtually the same amp. The only difference is that the SLX had an extra preamp tube and only came as full sized head. Some (most?) SLXs also shipped with 5881s. The earlier MKIII versions were also available in 1x12 and 2x12 combos.

Unfortunately, most of the 900s were the split channel Dual Reverbs, and not so many of the MKIIIs, which were a pretty killer rock amp based on the JCM800 single channels but with more gain.

Re: Looking for an Amp

The 1x12 900 combos also could be stacked on top of the model number 1912 1x12 speaker cab, which made for a pretty cool looking mini stack.

Re: Looking for an Amp

Yeah...but didn't love the 900 Combo.

Ace, there are three JCM900 variants and at least two types of combos. You probably played a 4501 Dual Reverb, while a 2501 is a totally different beast. The 2501 just has an overdrive channel with 2 foot-switchable master volumes. They have more gain than an 800, so it shouldn't be weak unless there was something wrong with it.

Re: Looking for an Amp

I really like the sound of that....

Now I need to find one. Does it stack nice on an extension speaker (as in exactly...)
