Looking for good small tube clean amplifier for home use

Re: Looking for good small tube clean amplifier for home use

I dont know what they are clones of
They have a tone shaping knob where you can have bright Fender tone on one end and dark Marshall on the other end of the sweep or blend both

Take a look at some of the YouTube videos
They get everything from country to metal
And you can roll the output down to one watt or half a watt for playing at home

I got a H&K tubemeister 5 for $200 used from Guitar center. It has a direct out redbox for recording and great cleans but no loop.

I’ve seen some H&K tubemeister 18’s going for cheap, they have a switch on the back for 5 watts or 1 watt, have a loop and will probably blow your other amps drive channel away. Just a thought.

I see there is not a lot of choices.. i'll keep checking for something used, and if i won't find nothing, i'll get that Bugera T5 Infinium. I am from Slovenia, there aren't a lot of options on used market, plus if something interesting shows up, it's overpriced. Someone wanted over 190 bucks for used Blackheart Little Giant, i wanted to drop the price to 140 bucks with no luck.

Go for G5 infinium instead. 2 channels, fx loop, foot switch. I have one myself,
great little amp. Play it through a 1x12 w/Greenback. Good luck.

Peace,

Darrin

Yea I like the lunchbox look of the T5
But the G5 has the features I would want

I found out that little combo Vox AC4C1 12 Classic.. http://www.voxamps.com/ac4c1-12. If i don't find something used in 2 months, i am gonna buy Vox. It's all valve, no solid state rectifier in it, so that's a big plus. Price is a little more, but that's a combo with 12 inch speaker in it, so it's ok.

It's diode rectified. OLD AC4 were valve rectified. Also, don't worry about that. I don't think you'll miss it. Unless you crank the amp all the time you would not really be taking advantage of rectifier sag anyways.

I just picked up a Peavey Classic 20 head it checks most of the boxes you are looking for. It has 20-5-1 watt operation, foot-switchable effects loop, great cleans and gain. You might be able to find one used in your budget.

Re: Looking for good small tube clean amplifier for home use

Very few modern low-wattage amps do good cleans. Most are trying for exactly the opposite: purposeful breakup.

The Monoprice one in particular is almost impossible to get clean out of the box. But it does have some nice modern features, and the price is right.

If you can possibly swing it, I'd look for a stock silver-face Vibro Champ. They are in the $400 to $600 range in good condition. You might find a beater for less. They have almost no features, but they hold together very well for low powered amps.

I've pretty much decided.. since i am 70 % of a hi gain player, and cleans on that Randall RD45 that i already own are beautiful, almost fendery, the first thing i am gonna do is to take that RD45 to service, to repair it, because right now for some reason it isn't working. That amp also sounds very good on low volumes, so, for i while i can get out with higher wattage amp. I would also need the amp for smaller audience gigs, so i can add to an amp Joyo OCD clone, and also have a crunch channel, so i can cover most of the sounds with it. The only bad thing is that RD45 is very loud, so maybe, latter i can buy RD20 which also has a clean channel, or a little cheaper Peavey Classic 20 head, but i would need hi gain distortion pedal with Peavey to cover metal. I gave up on modellers and hybrids, i want an all tube sound now for sure. I am also coming into conclusion that i would want similar sound for pretty much everything.. for bedroom practicing, for recording, for jams, for smaller audience, for band practicing, and for bigger audiences. So, maybe i can really go with Randall RD20, and than have the same sounds for most purposes. In general, i love the sound of Diavlos, i own them now for good 4 years and still love them. The only bad thing about them is, that smaller versions, 1 watt and 5 watt only have one channel, if there would be 2 channels it would be great.
