Looking for info about powerstage 170 poweramp

Says it runs 4-8ohms. Its seems to be solidstate so shouldnt it do 16ohms also?
Its 170w at 4ohm. How many w at 8ohm? Or 16ohm if possible?
In its description it doesnt state how many speaker outs it has. Can it run 2 cabs?
Does it have a large wallwart power cord or is the power section built into the unit?

Re: Looking for info about powerstage 170 poweramp

Yeah...it should be able to go 16, it should be able to go wide open.
You will start to lose power as your impedance goes up from 4 Ohms.

Re: Looking for info about powerstage 170 poweramp

But how many watts would it be at 16ohms??? Anyone know?

Re: Looking for info about powerstage 170 poweramp

In theory, if your 170 is RMS Power.....about 40.
Do you have a 16 Ohm speaker you want to run.?

Re: Looking for info about powerstage 170 poweramp

I come across them sometimes when gear sharing at a gig

Re: Looking for info about powerstage 170 poweramp

I will be starting a thread later this week where you can ask the actual designer all the questions you want...stay tuned.

Re: Looking for info about powerstage 170 poweramp

No the first power amp for guitar (see ISP and NYC Tech 21 options) but certainly a very interesting option, but I think the SD price is a bit high as competition is already handling smaller prices.

That is a good question, wonder why they report 4 Ohm spec in the 8 Ohm guitar amp world?

Re: Looking for info about powerstage 170 poweramp

If I have a 212 cab 100 watt at 4 ohms will the powerstage 170 blow my speakers? speakers are celestion vintage 30s.
Any word on a release date? Why all the secrecy? Only 1 Image of this thing online.

Re: Looking for info about powerstage 170 poweramp

I think Celestion rates the V30 at 60 Watts.?
Anyway, you can do the math.....120 Watts of speakers looking at 170 Watts of amp.
Will they snap as soon as you turn the amp on.? No.
But that 170 amp will be pounding on those 120 speakers if you have the volume up. They will have a hard life.
Good Luck

Re: Looking for info about powerstage 170 poweramp

Yup your right 60 watts. For some reason i thought it was 50.
I dont know why but I was thinking because its a SS amp and its a floor board amp 170 watts would translate to something else. I thought I was missing something.
So if I wire my cab in series for a 16ohm cab then i should be good to go right? since 170 watts would become 42.5 watts at 16 ohms?
Why would anyone need 700 Watts?

"That reminds me , you better not hook up to the amplifier, theres a slight possibility of overload"

Well, if it really is 170 at 4 Ohms, it would be 85 at 8 Ohms. It might even give the ratings on the back panel.

Re: Looking for info about powerstage 170 poweramp

Judging by the rear pannel of the powerstage 700 something tells me this isnt really for guitar cabs but more for pa speakers with the use of modeling amplifiers with built in speaker cab IRs like kemper. Im just going by the outputs jacks. They look like theyre more for pa style speakers rather then guitar cabs. True or false?

Re: Looking for info about powerstage 170 poweramp

I am not sure of the initial design, but I heard the Powerstage 170 at NAMM going into a regular guitar cabinet (via a Palladium pedal) and it sounded absolutely massive. It wasn't demoed into a full range cab (that I saw).

Re: Looking for info about powerstage 170 poweramp

Thats probably why its 700 watts and would answer my previous question to why anyone would need 700 watts. Makes sense now.
Its kind of disappointing if that is the case tho. Was really looking forward to this.
