Looking for new tunning keys

I have a PRS SE Singlecut and the tunners are decent. I'm looking to improve them, can anyone give me any input on the better tunners I can buy. Thabnks

Re: Looking for new tunning keys

I personally have a tendency to put Sperzels on just about everything.

Proven locking mechanism on the locking version
Tight machining tolerances
Swappable left /right in about 30 seconds /tuner
Unique bushing design which allows the housing to hold the post and not the screw-in sleeve
and made in the USA

Only downside: others sell cheaper tuners.

Re: Looking for new tunning keys

i think a Schaller M6 would be a drop in replacement for the tuners. there's also a set of Grover tuners, but i forgot what model. You can send PRS an email regarding aftermarket tuners for SEs, they'll give a quick response.

Also

they are gigantic and ugly

But yes, functional and well-made.

but they are ugly.

Big silver boxes...

^^ This has never bothered me, but I generally play my guitars instead of staring at the back of the headstock for hours on end :D:beerchug:

If you aren't staring at the back of your headstock like an arr-tard, you aren't doin it right. :)

Re: Looking for new tunning keys

Planet Waves (I think they're made by Schaller) locking tuners are excellent and, at least the gold ones, really look sexy. Plus they auto trim your strings as you tune them.

Re: Looking for new tunning keys

i have a preference to the schaller mini tuners. always had fantastic results with them. there are a ton of threads on here about tuning stability and tuner pegs though. the general consensus is that if you are having tuning issues then there are most likely other culprits before the tuner pegs, mostly set up and nut issues.

Re: Looking for new tunning keys

My PRS SE One has a set of PRS "wing collar" locking tuners. If these fit, the good, ol' Schaller M6 will also fit. (The locking feature is completely unnecessary. The heads happened to be lying around after a Phase II heads conversion on another Nineties PRS.)

Pardon me for keeping out of the ninja/loincloth portion of this thread. ;)

Re: Looking for new tunning keys

I like Gotoh Tuners for everything. Excellect stability, smooth operation and great looks.
