Looking for the sound of an Amon Amarth Album

Hi,

i'm trying to get a sound like on the "Versus The World" record by Amon Amarth.

Here are two songs from the album:

They played a lot of Gibson Explorers at the time, i think with original Gibson 500T Pickups. The amps where mostly dual rectifiers. I think it sounds very compressed, probably becouse of the dual rectifier. Later Amon Amarth sound different, probably becouse they switched from the dual rectifiers to H&K and then peavey 6505. I own a rectifier and a Les Paul Custom with Gibson 498 in the bridge position. It sounds similar, but not close enough. So i'm looking for a duncan ceramic humbucker that pushes my sound more to exact that kind of amon amarth sound.

Greetings from germany

Id say probably a Duncan distortion or Duncan Custom.. But dont forget that the most important key to play Amon is the head twirling! LOL!!! I love those guys, espec cuz they rock Explorers!!!

They use the 500T. They've done for a while. Not sure if they used it back then. They probably did. I'm thinking Duncan Distortion, Black Winter, or Custom if you wanna stay within that realm, but wanna go Duncan.

Also, Tubescreamer-type boost!

What's the main difference between a Duncan Distortion and a 500T? I think the DD looks interessting.

No i don't own a tubescreamer. You really think there used one for the recordings? I mean the dual rectifier got a lot of gain on its own. Is it sound on the album very characteristic for a tubescremer?

Re: Looking for the sound of an Amon Amarth Album

You need a boost its not about gain it's about tightening up the amps response.

Hell I'm willing to bet the boost gets you closer to the tone than any pickup swap does
