Another NAD. The one I've been waiting for

And here's the Grote in a touchy feely gropey ballady context ...ignore the video title & description, I forgot to change that.

It's the Grote w/ the neck (Fockin Rocket Queen A2) pup..,,not the Charvel.

Grote + Marshall:

They sound good. Just too many channels for me. I use modded 800s. no clean channels. No switching. Just use volume controls for different shades of dirt. I use these when backlined and use whatever sounds closest to my 800 and ditch the footswitch lol.

I'd get lost with so many knobs

Honestly it just looks more complex than it is. It's pretty much the same as your average 2-3 channel amp but w/ a 4th Channel. The tonestack is pretty much the same as any high gain amp..ie, bass, middle, treble, presence & resonance (+ channel & master volumes..) ..standard fare.

The only diff being the 3 separate 'modes' each channel has which is as simple as pushing the same switch 3 times to switch between them

Something like my Randall T2 is more tricky to dial in/find that sweet spot, with it's 2 mid knobs (mid & mid-sweep)...

Plus I don't really see myself using 2 of the 4 channels much (clean & crunch) :p ...sweet though they both do sound :bigthumb:

A modded 2203/4 (extra preamp tube/gain stages) is a fine beast indeed. Even the ones (2205's) w/ the clipping diodes I've tried can sound pretty sweet. Probably my fave Marshall sound. But finding the right guy to do the mods here is'nt easy (or cheap). The JVM puts me in the ballpark of all those tones w/o ever having to mess around w/ it/spend more money :p...to me they (JVM tones) sound almost indistinguishable. It gets super close to any classic 800 tone you want...Plexi's too (check out Johan Segeborn's YT channel) ...plus it can do more of it's own thing as well and ALWAYS has that Marshall sound to it . I've gassed for one ever since I played it soon after they first came out :bigthumb:

I did a tweak myself on it. Didn't like it much. Sent it to Jaded Faith Mods... too much gain. Finally just sent it to Dave Friedman and had him just make it sound the best it could. Lowered the gain a bit. Gave it back it's Marshall sound, just with a bit more gain. Not all Beehived out.

Well I'm glad it worked out for you....I like lots of gain, but not at the expense of character....

That's why this JVM ihas always been the tits for me. It's got way more gain on tap than I'll ever need, but it still has that unmistakable Marshall sound.

Plus it will do more...right up to the early 90's grinding death metal rhythm tones I love (Carcass, Bolt Thrower, Autopsy etc) :bigthumb:

Unlike a lot of Marshall's it also has a pretty beefy bottom if needed.

More warm, tender, fondley-ness w/ the Crunch channel (Red mode) ..boosted w/ a Boss SD-1 through the Laney Greenback 25 2x12....

Forgot to turn the reverb on..so added a bit from the DAW.

It has a pretty sweet sounding onboard reverb though... (used it for the last clip)

In my humble opinion, the JVM is the very best amp ever made..... 4 channels with 3 modes for each channel! Fully programmable foot switches!
Reverbs, 2 separate master volumes assignable to whichever present you want. And there's not a crappy tone in the whole unit.... From chimey cleans to vintage Marshall tones, to rock crunch and even searing leads and chunky ballsy metal... Tons of gain (I set my gain at about 3) and it sounds good at any volume... It doesn't even suffer from (some) Marshall's flubby bottom end, it's just an amazing piece of work.
It's not hissy, it plays well with pedals... This amp does it all..

Congrats to you sir. You have reached the finish line!

Thanks :beerchug:

It's certainly among the best I've played..and without a doubt my favourite Marshall that I've tried (and I've tried a few). I would'nt say it's the best Marshall ever cuz that's subjective but it's certainly the best one for me :bigthumb:

I was also pretty surprised by how quiet mine is, Not that I remember them being particularly noisy, but that's a common complaint you hear about them and by high gain amp standards's mine's dead quiet even with the gain turned way up. My Laney Ironheart 120 and Brutus Live amps are a lot noisier and they are'nt particularly noisy either..

Also glad that this thing rocks at bedroom volumes unlike a lot of other Marshall's. Still have'nt unpacked or checked out the footswitch I guess I'll get around to that soon. As for now I'm just jamming shit and having a blast w/ it every minute I can :D

Back to the nippy stuff...but more old school \m/

Missed some pinch harmonics @ the start there...

eh, you win some/lose some :laugh2:

Gotta say this Superlux mic (Sennhesier e609 clone) I picked up for peanuts is pretty sweet. I like mics like this cause you can just hang them over the top of your cab & your'e ready to go :bigthumb:

I think the trick is to turn down the treble/presence and pump the mids & bass up a fair bit....that makes things sound nice & lively.

And again, w/ a couple of other amp's for comparison...

Laney Ironheart 120 -> Laney Camo 4x12 w/ V30 clones (Pulse PM12S)

Line 6 DT50 -> 1x12 w/ Creamback M

Damn....we're down here already?? :lmao:

Nevermind..

Some more (nippy-ish) jamming for comparison :bigthumb:

Laboga The Beast Classic 30W (4xEL84) -> 1x12 w/ Creamback 65:

Randall T2 w// the other lead channel (red/unboosted)...custom 5 w/ this channel is a match made in heaven for the squealies :D

OD-2 Red...

Probably my fave channel/Mode (no surprises there :lmao:)

OD-1 Orange/red modes probably already have more gain available than most "high gain" amps do ...but eh, OD -2 ....just feeling that much meaty uber-gain under my fingers is downright incredible :D

Anyway this is w/ the gain @ about 2:00 o'clock..

I've heard it said that the gain is unusable beyond that on OD2/Red....but honestly that's just crap. You can solo with the gain dimed....it sounds phenomenal in many setttings, and it's great that way for death & doom metal rhythm as well!

Remember kids, you can never have enough gain :bigthumb:

Reconfigured the wall.....

(100W) Randall T2 into the Laney 4x12 Camo Cab w/ V30 clones (Pulse PM12S's) - 240W

(100W) Marshall JVM into the Laney 2x12 w/ V30's - 120W

(120W) Laney Ironheart into the Laney 2x12 w/ Eminence Swamp Thang/Manowar - 270W

(50W) Line 6 DT50 into the 1x12 w/ Creamback M - 65W
