Looks way better than those big ol' robot tuning systems from a few years ago. I might try one of these out sometime.
Maybe install one of those on my SG Special, if they would become available as a kit.

Re: Looks neat - Gibby Content from me for once!

I wouldn't damn anyone for using it. But, to me, it's just more **** to break.

Re: Looks neat - Gibby Content from me for once!

More **** to break indeed when it is not that hard to tune your damn guitar by yourself.

Re: Looks neat - Gibby Content from me for once!

Yet again, a big guitar company is solving a problem that doesn't exist.

Re: Looks neat - Gibby Content from me for once!

Its not for the common folk like you and me - its for the Doctors, Lawyers and CEO's who take their guits in to change strings. And their children.

Joking. It just looks neat - probably would not survive a year.

I think it would be a great value when you use a lot of different timings. It would stop the singer from telling bad jokes while I retune I could see it having a home in my house

Re: Looks neat - Gibby Content from me for once!

So instead of reaching up to turn the keys, I reach up to press a button. Then pick the strings individually as usual. [sarcasm]What a timesaver.[/sarcasm]

Re: Looks neat - Gibby Content from me for once!

My first decent electric guitar was a Telecaster copy with the three-saddle bridge. I learned to bend the strings to correct for intonation. Great ear training.

If I'm going to be playing a gig that calls for tuning changes, I'm going to be bringing different guitars that are tuned and intonated for each tuning (something this machine also does not help with) with the correct strings. Going from E to drop D, maybe. Going from E to Eb, you're starting to get into fuzzy territory. Anything more extreme than moving a half step and you might as well have a different guitar ready.

-edit- Read timing as tunings hahaha. Unless you're going nuts on your guitar, I don't see the gibson machine being any faster than just giving each string a quick check.

Here are some problems Gibson could solve all by themselves:

STOP FRETTING THE FINGERBOARD BEFORE IT'S GLUED TO THE NECK!!!!!

PUT THE VOLUTE BACK IN THE HEADSTOCK!! OR PUT SPLINES IN THE BREAK ANGLE

STOP MAKING 'VINTAGE CORRECT' REPRODUCTIONS AND START MAKING NEW DESIGNS!

Re: Looks neat - Gibby Content from me for once!

This is obviously way more useful for swapping between tunings than it is for just making sure you're still in tune between songs. And this may be controversial, but I think that for that purpose, it's a little simpler and more convenient than having a guitar for each tuning.

I play in standard tuning 99.9% of the time, so it's completely useless to me. I think a lot of new tech stuff that gets put on guitars now is only really useful if for some reason (space, money) you are limited to one guitar.

Re: Looks neat - Gibby Content from me for once!

agreed with its just another thing to break/break down

Definately an improvement over the old bulky system, but I worry about the lasting reliability and then the cost to replace or repair. Grovers/ Schallers or better yet, any locking type tuner and Im good.

would be a plus for tuning changes during a set, again, if it proves reliable.

Re: Looks neat - Gibby Content from me for once!

i was interested in checking these out at the NAMM show after being completely underwhelmed by every robot i played. I did, and the guitar i tried already had a broken tuning system. Gibson should probably give up on the self tuning guitar idea, they just never get it right.

Re: Looks neat - Gibby Content from me for once!

What a freakin joke. How hard is it to tune up? You can get a Snark for less than ten bucks. If you're more or less in tune to begin with it takes seconds.
That wasted R&D is reflected in the new Gibby prices too.

another note;

anyone notice [in the video] that the D and B strings were tuned DOWN to pitch? Bad form...
