loose neck pocket

Re: loose neck pocket

My 76 strat has the worst neck joint I've ever seen. It has a veneer on one side and a yellow dunlop pick on the other to stop it moving.

As the previous owner said: "don't remove the pick. It's part of the tone"

Re: loose neck pocket

Is this the Imfamous Fender 70's 3-bolt problem?? I fixed my 73' Strat
by putting a piece or mesh in the neck pocket. A 1 1/2 inch square
from a window screen etc. worked like a charm. :) No more shifty neck .

Re: loose neck pocket

yeah, though it's not the three bolt system that's the problem. The problem is fender were sloppy drilling the screw holes and routing the pockets. I have a three bolt MIM tele and it's tight as a drum.

A pick for me, mesh for you, I wonder what other crazy things have been used to fix 'crappy 70s fender-itis'?
