Re: low end PRS guitars
I just bought the SE Soapbar II yesterday. The construction, feel, fretwork, playability and finish are all top notch. This is my first experience with P90 pickups so I can't compare them with other P90's. As far as the overall output it's a little less than my Les Paul with the stock Gibson pickups and a little more than my Telecaster with Fralins Blues Specials. I have'nt tried adjusting the pickups height or pole pieces yet on the SE, so here's my general impression after playing it for a good six hours as is: I really like the neck pickup. Seems to have just the right amount of depth without being muddy or droney and the right amount of clarity to bring it thru without being over the top. A very nice sounding neck pickup. The bridge pickup has decent lows and good mids but it can bite if you're not careful. I've found I had to keep the tone control down a bit when playing clean using just the bridge pickup alone or combined with the neck pickup. But again, maybe adjusting the pickups will take care of all that. I'll find out tomorow. The guitar is very quiet with hardly any hum at all. A lot less hum than my Tele has. It's a new sound for me and so far I'm really enjoying it.
