Low-Mid power Bridge Humbucker Perpetual Burn vs Saturday Night Special

Going into a Strat with a Mahogany 24 3/4 neck. I have the Pearly Gates neck and i'm very pleased with it. I want a bridge pickup that is in the sweet spot of 10-11k. What should i expect between a Perpetual Burn vs Saturday Night Special bridge? I play mostly overdriven 80's rock, satriani, Beck, Floyd, and shred. What i don't like in a bridge pickup is a compressed sound or mushy bottom. To me unpotted pickups sound great, i love the overtones and harmonics. I want an open sounding, organic pickup but with plenty of punch for arena power chords but subtlety for volume roll offs mellow pinch harmonics. I have in another similar axe a JB in the bridge and i like it alot, it's just a bit overpowering.

The PB still sounds like it has some power to it. I have a 12k humbucker and I like it. It's plenty articulate. The SNS is starting to get into vintage output.

Why isn't the TB-12 being considered? It's the only non-custom model in the resistance range specified (not that DCR should be a critical factor).

Either one should be fine, I've had both, the PB is more in the JB realm, but much better ability to clean up and much better clean tone. Saturday night special to me sounds a bit fatter, a lot of mids, and a little looser in the low end, but still very versatile, I might throw the 59/Custom hybrid in the mix too.... it's got that crazy growl in the Midrange that just sounds great no matter what you are using it for. For the type of music you like to play, I really think you would love the Perpetual Burn.

Well, for a shorter scale mahogany Strat, my first thought is the SNS, as the YouTube demo of an SG sounds so good. The SNS is not as compressed feeling/sounding as the PB, and I also sort or see the PB in the JB family, which is a little too 'hard' for me.

Yes i can assume these 2 pickups are vastly different. Alnico 4 vs 5 and output differences. I may go with the SNS, i have a feeling the PB will be too compressed for my needs

What did you eventually use and how did you like it?

And what is this compression you speak of?

The point-by-point answer to your request is an A8-modded Seth Lover bridge, which it'll also balance pretty well with the PGn tone-wise.

Forget the DC reading. It doesn't really mean anything

Hello,
Quick plug for a 59/Custom Hybrid. Loud ( about 11k resistence-don't tell Lt.Kojak I used the "r" word) but while loud, the coils are mismatched for a little more growl full up. BUT....it cleans up better than any mid/high p'up I have tied. The worst being the JB. Roughcast A5 mag in my custom shop unpotted, no wax any where, sound a little grittier pushed but are still lovely rolled back. Not sure if the store ones (guitar center, etc.) use a Polished A5 or roughcast A5. Maybe ask.
My 2 cents, or 1 million cents if you like he Hybrid. Thanks,
Steve Buffington

JB being the worst at cleaning up? You, sir, have not tried the Ibanez Infinity pickup xDDDDDDDDD

Which, btw, is actually not the worst sounding stock pickup! Keep in mind this thing comes in $200 guitars. It's surprisingly decent, not as muddy as one would expect, high output, and even has some nice harmonics that you don't expect out of cheapo pickups... but it's absolutely binary: rolling down the volume does completely nothing until it reaches 0 when it just mutes the guitar <_<
