Low power, EL34 poweramps?

I want a very low power (max 30 watts) EL34 poweramp to use with a preamp. I can't find any suitable amps except for the THD Univalve, which is a stand-alone head, and has way too many features for my needs, and also has a preamp.

If anyone has suggestions, please let me know!

Thanks,

Re: Low power, EL34 poweramps?

Most poweramps in that range will be EL84-based. If you have to have those exact specs, you might want to contact Matamp for a custom job.

Oh my ****ing god MRID welcome back.

That said, I second that, I'm not sure if there are any EL34 amps that low powered. Also consider that EL34's tend to get muddy below C#, if you're still into metal.

Re: Low power, EL34 poweramps?

I do not know of any EL34 power amps that are in the 30 watt range.

Also, FWIW, don't worry about the "Muddy below C#" crap...ANY power tube an get muddy at ANY tuning under the right (or wrong as it may be) condition(s). Saying that an EL34 amp gets muddy tuned down a step and a half is a stupid blanket statement.

Re: Low power, EL34 poweramps?

You can grab a VHT 2/50/2, run it 1/2 power & class A.....it'll be knocked down, but still be super creamy!

Re: Low power, EL34 poweramps?

Get the univalve. I have one and it is great. You can use just one el34 and crank it. I run mine through a weber mini mass. You won't be disappointed.

That might be the best thing for what you are asking...

Great idea!

Who ever said that metal is tuning below C#?! :grumble:

I never play down-tuned, just to clarify any possible misunderstandings.

With that said:

I don't have the money to buy a huge 100w VHT preamp just for running it at 50 watts. As you migth have understood from all my complaining earlier on, gear is extremely expensive here in norway. I just want a cute little amp, that can give me the roar of overdriven El34's without a power attuentator or stage volumes!

Anyway, thanks for the advice,

Dude, will you just shut the **** up already? I speak from experience. EL34's under HIGH GAIN (which you don't play with, IIRC) get muddy when tuned down that low.

Re: Low power, EL34 poweramps?

Guys, calm down. Lets have a joint!

:D

Re: Low power, EL34 poweramps?

All I am saying is that saying "EL34's tend to get muddy below C#" is a blanket statement and it is not true.

If you have been in a situation using EL34's, tuned down to C#, and using high gain AND it got muddy...thats only one time, one guitar, one amp. that does not mean that it WILL hold true for all situations following.

Re: Low power, EL34 poweramps?

Alright... blanket statement, whatever.

I've tried it with 3 different Marshalls, 3 different Mesa's, and a power/preamp setup. I've also discussed it with many people, including touring proffessionals, who agree with me. Using 7 strings or low tuned axe's just doesn't work well with EL34's.

I'm just sick of every post you have in response to one of mine being attacking and/or degrading.

Re: Low power, EL34 poweramps?

Try the MOJAVE AMPS
they all have power reduction built in and sound really good!

Also consider a Seymour Duncan Convertible (lol I AM SERIOUS)

I have never attacked or degraded you, I simply call BS when I see it...it's not my fault you post a lot of BS.

Re: Low power, EL34 poweramps?

I seem to recall a couple "I forgive you because you're 15..." statements, and a deleted post or two with the reason as "****ing kids!"

You called what I posted stupid and crap. If insulting my experiences and findings isn't degrading, then I'll back down.

Just that statement "You post a lot of BS" is degrading. You're 11 years older than me, dude. Grow the **** up already!

Although, on second thought, if insulting kids makes you feel like more of a man, then go right ahead.

Re: Low power, EL34 poweramps?

Woah...

How about the zvex nano amp? It isn't EL34s, but it rages at low volume. Its definitely Marshally, too...

+1, Good to have you back buddy, we've missed the hell out of you on this board :arms:

Re: Low power, EL34 poweramps?

a normal class A/B amp got at least two tubes which makes at least 50 Watts with EL-34
Maybe EL-84 amps are the way to go...

I think there is a lack of a simple low watt mono tube poweramp which isn't costing much and can be used with preamps for home use...
