low wattage moderately priced tube amps

new, 2nd hand doesnt matter.. around 500$

laney, crate, etc etc. i need details, reviews, how do they react, are they good, sound, in what field do they work best, features.

heads preferable, but if it's only a combo i can live with that


oh yea.. 30W and below

I'd vote for Rivera. They are one of the few that do the printed circuit board thing right, nice and thick PCB's, great quality stuff. And, they give you Marshall and Fender in one box with overdrives on each channel. essentially a 4 channel amp imo.

i've looked at riveras (got any specific model in mind i can look after?) and localy (havent checked abroad much cos i dont know the models) and they go over 1500

unless you can find a 25/50 w Marshall 900

well.. i kinda know what i could go.. i'd like specific models and if any of you got 1st hand experience with them, as i said in the 1st post. best field of use, features, tone, reliability etc etc

no effects whatsoever. dont care if it has reverb or no. but no effects.
though it has to have an EQ, in adition to the drive and volume.. effects loop doesnt interest me much, speaker out is a major + and if it's a combo, should work on 8ohm .. now i'm getting too picky huh??

i'll write those down and try to find em

how bout those palomino crates and the low watage laneys

I could build you a Tweed Champ for $575 or a Tweed Deluxe for $750 plus shipping to whereever the 9th ring of hell is. Should I call Dante Express? "We deliver by the Apocolypse or it's Free!"


But, neither will be a death metal type of amp!

No problem on that dude, but this is an old-school fender design, both of them. Wonderful 6V6 melt down. Ask jeremy about my Tweed Deluxe. Classic american tone.

Matamp make a 2w Valve head that sells new for about £250, but I dunno if this is too low wattage for what you need?

Crate V-30 head with el-84's is definetly a favorite of mine

I like it better than the EL34 50 watt combos I was trying from the same line... I wish I would have found the V-30 before I picked up the valve-king, it's really what I was looking for in sound.

I wish I would have found the V-30 before I picked up the valve-king, it's really what I was looking for in sound.

I was planning to go check out the Valvekings tomorrow... well, later today. (5am??) Did the sound just not get quite as close as you'd hoped to the one in your head, or are there more concrete "When you [setting adjustment] it gets really [undesirable sound characteristic]" type things I should keep an ear out for?

It only appears to have a 'Tone Control', so no individual EQ I'm afraid.

Crate V30 - close to 1100
Crate V15 - 750
Crate V16/32 - not available
Laney LC30 - one store says 750, the other 550
Laney LC15 - both say around 400
there's an Ashdown 8W amp, but around the 1200 mark
talkin to Pierre for his 30W AOR but i dont know if i'll be able to swing the shipping


scott, i dont think i'll be able to afford one of yours. the price is nice, but i gotta count in the shipping and customs and that doesnt sound nice anymore

Ok, I will probably be flogged for this, but what about a used Peavey Classic 30? I would suggest a Boogie 22 caliber for our shred minded friend, but those things are going for stoopid money on ebay and I'm not sure what the QC is like.

peavey classic 30 & delta blues are both 30 watts

and if you put 6v6's in a hot rod deluxe it drops to about 30 watts
