LP Backup

I have found tonal bliss with the pickup combo and setup on my new LP. The pups are not hot so the sound is warm and sweet. I would however like to get a backup and make it a crunchmiester.. I cant afford another Gibson right now, so I was looking at getting either an Agile 2800 or an Epi Elitist Studio. Ill probably load it with emg zakk wylde set or Duncan Custom or distortion,
What do you recommend???

Well, Agiles are very nice guitars (I owned one for a good while) but if you can afford an elitist I'd say go for it... I've heard very good things about the elitists.... The agile will still be a good backup tho... I guess it'll have a lot to do with what you are willing to pay... good luck.

Don't sound anything like a Les Paul IME. Not enough wood. Thinner (literally and figuratively). They do *look* like one though... sorta Nice guitar for the $ tho. But If I was gonna buy a "copy" I think I'd go w/ one of the Agile's, Burny's or Tokai's or scrutinize the local Korean Epi population.

As for the original post, If ya can afford an Elitist go for it. In the same price range you could prolly grab a good Gibson Studio too.

EDIT: Sorry... you were looking at an Elitist Studio. Thought you meant a Standard Elitist.

Ilike the EC1000 but its more than I want to spend. I also love the elitist standard, but if Im paying that, Ill get another gibby studio.. The Elitist standards are made nice. I hope the studios are as well

im not sure where your price range is, but i just got a Tokai Loverock MIK and its awesome, i honestly like it just as much as any Gibson LP ive played except for a $4000 custom shop one

I don't know your price range, but you might also consider a used Hamer Special - they should go for around $400 - $500. However, they are doublecut bodies with a flat top, not an arched top. Still, great players with Duncan pickups stock.

I had a suggestion but if you're just going to foul it up with EMG's then I won't bother.

Go with the Agile.

Well, you might not like the suggestion, but the only two guitars that I carry with me for any show is the Bastardcaster Tele and my '76 LP Custom. I can get comparable tones to each guitar out of either instrument, and you can rest assured that if the LP doesn't have what you're looking for tone wise, the Tele will.

Im wanting to go with a hot pickup combo, Not neccessarily EMGs. My Lp studio has a focus on "sweet tone" with the pups in her. I want one thats full on now. Maybe a custom or distortion or even a 500t.

Would I do better to save bucks and get the agile or shell out a couple hundred more for a Tokai?? Much difference in them?

Other nice alternatives are
Diodati
Hamer studio
Dean EVO Premium (czech made)
Heritage H140 or H150.

You can find some great deals used on these sometimes.

Bumpski! Tokai is being considered too. I check ebay for some of the other brands and cant afford $120 shipping... How are the Tokais?

Well, a new Tokai without shipping (or only a few dollars) for a U.S. citizen usually means Canadian Love Rocks, and you got the answer already... Just a few hours ago I read on HC that a guy from the S.F. bay area bought a 1981 Love Rock for US $200 in his home town though, so start searching. Oh yes, everything about Tokais can be found here:
