LP caps, pots ect..

I usually don't spend much time in the pickup lounge, but it's time for that to change. I just ordered my first Seymour Duncans :fingersx: to throw into my LP. I've got a Custom for the bridge and a Pearly Gates for the neck. Right now everything on my LP is stock, but i've read about people changing their tone and volumes pots (usually to 500k) when upgrading their pups. I also heard alot of talk about orange drop caps. I have no idea what any of this really is, i just want the best sound out of my guitar and i want to know what to tell the tech when he wires everything up for me. Someone wanna help explain some of this for me?? thanks in advance

Hi, your LP should already have 500K pots. All mine have come stock with those. As far as Orange Drops, I personally haven`t noticed any difference in tone with those, the ceramics have worked well for me. Some real picky folks I know use those Bumblebee caps, but they are really expensive. Good luck!

I don't think there is a big diff in tone between differant manufacturers of capacitors in a guitar's tone circuit. The diff between an .02 Orange Drop and an .02 Ceramic disc cap will not be huge...but you might hear a little diff. Or you might hear no diff! But there is a diff between differant values of caps. .02 will leave more mids in your signal when you turn the tone control down than .047 or .05 will.

Orange drops and Hovlands as well as Mallory caps sound tons better than the crappy sterilebrittle sounding stock caps that came in my LPs. Worth the $ and effort.

The original BB's and Gibson wiring harnesses sound great if you can find them (there is a pretty cheap source out there-you figure it out). Amp pulls (blue Mallorys, Astrons, etc) also sound great. Never been a big fan of OD's...
