LP Experts...This Legit?

Re: LP Experts...This Legit?

I can't say 100% for certain. The binding and plastics look too dark, but that could be the lighting in the pics. There also aren't any pics of the output jack plate.

Re: LP Experts...This Legit?

Is it being sold as a 1992? Or 2012? BTW, 2012 models should not get similar prices to 2011 or 2013 and later issues, due to the less desirable layered fingerboards Gibson used in 2012.

I would like to see a photo of back of the headstock and the serial number, but it looks legit to me. Another place to look is under the neck pickup, so see if it has a long tenon neck joint. Looking under the bridge pickup should give you the Gibson model codes. And there should be an "R9" stamped in the control panel. Certainly all of the extras, case, hang tags and such look real.

I do have some concerns about the dark back, these are USUALLY red-stained mahogany; but dark backs do exist. It could just be lighting, or camera colors.

But some people are doing really clever fakes these days, and it can be hard to tell from just photos. Sometimes you can tell a Japanese or Chinese fake simply by--the smell, of all things! I have detected several fakes this way over the years; I think it's the glue they use.

Pretty guitar. I love my Historics.

Good luck.

Bill

Its legit. ABR bridge, correct single ring pickup switch metal ring. and yes, they do have dark back '59s

Its for sure not a '92 though, They did double stains in the 90's on the flame tops.

Re: LP Experts...This Legit?

Id still say the guitar looks legit. The craigslist post is a scam yes, but the guitar itself looks legit. Ive seen a lot of les pauls (real and fake) and know what to look for with the Chibson ones

Re: LP Experts...This Legit?

Yes...the guitar is real...but...the pix are copped from the EBay listing. Just wanted people to be informed. Apparently there are multiple CL postings in various cities.

Re: LP Experts...This Legit?

I generally do have good experiences there and on EBay and in general. Every once in a while... Just can't get lazy with due diligence...as I almost did this time...ALMOST!

Re: LP Experts...This Legit?

Ive sold a lot of stuff on CR and only have had a few small problems with fake emails, thats bout it. Never bought or sold on ebay yet

Re: LP Experts...This Legit?

looks fake too shiny and the hardware and stuff just look somehow "wrong". the case is definitley not a gibson case too.

you are 100% wrong. the case is the standard brown gibson custom shop case, and its shiny because its most likely a gloss finish '59

Re: LP Experts...This Legit?

Nothing looks out of place to me. Better pic of the headstock might help.

Try this on the Les Paul Forum. They can tell by smell alone.
