LP Relics

Ive been saving my money and considering a guitar like a strat or something, but I got major gas for a reliced LP. Of course, Im not getting a historic Gibson, too much money, so I was looking at cheaper non USA companies like Tokai and Edwards. I really like the way the Jimmy Page Edawards looks. Can someone give me a link to where I can get this new? Any more info would be apreciated. Link to the relic Tokai will be apreciated too. Thanks a lot.

Re: LP Relics

all i know is that i like the news on the prs website about gibson loosing the single cut prs lawsuit thing. could this mean gibson les paul lowering in price and increase in quality due to stress that competitors could become better?

one can dream, no??

I don't think that will ever happen unfortunately. Gibson would have to get alot worse. There is just too much history and loyalty to the Gibson brand. And while prices aren't getting any lower, Quality control IME has been on the rise the past coupla years. Whether they are worth the price or not is a whole 'nother ball of wax. Suffice to say, the best Les Pauls I've played or owned have not been from Gibson's competitors, but budget has been a factor for me..otherwise I wouldn't even consider a competitors product. But when I've got (for example) $1000 to spend on a Paul...I'm gonna buy an Edwards or Tokai or whatever over a Studio. Gimme 2 grand and I'm going for a used Historic or a good production Standard/Classic.

Re: LP Relics

yeah i overlooked that fact. gibson has just been, throughout history, THE most influential brand of guitar. (or one of the best along with Fender). i made the mistake of going for a gibson brand at 600 dollars (epiphone) when those guitars are the same, or maybe even worse than agiles going for 400 bucks. and im in the same situation as you, if i had 2000 bucks to blow (which i dont) id get a used high quality gibson, probably a gibson custom '59 like this baby here http://cgi.ebay.com/GIBSON-59-LES-P...ryZ38086QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Re: LP Relics

Thanks for the replies guys. I think Im leaning towards the Edwards, they look really cool. Do you think if I give Katana an email that they can get a Jimmy Page relic model? OR are they limited editions that are gone? Whats the story with these guitars. The only reason Im looking at these brands is for the relics really. Im looking at the new ones too, but Im really interested in the relics. Thanks.

If you don't mind going the ebay route, here's a link to a Tokia Jimmy Page Model: http://cgi.ebay.com/ESP-EDWARDS-JIMMY-PAGE-59RI-RELIC-LES-PAUL-FLAME-TOP_W0QQitemZ180021715332QQihZ008QQcategoryZ33038QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Re: LP Relics

I had an Edwards JP, and I think it is easily the best value in LP copies. The build quality was amazing on this thing, and the "ageing" was not overdone, it was quite tasteful. These JPs are aged in the ESP custom shop, where supposedly their best craftsmen work. I think it's true because I've had two other Edwards LPs, and the JP was the best one. The neck profile was great, too -- not too thick like many of the current Gibson 59s.
