LTD EC400at?

A long time ago, I bought an LTD EC400AT. It was at a shop for pretty cheap. Was a gold top (meh) and had a ding in it. I loved that guitar. Was heavy as an anchor, but sustained like all get out, and I liked the huge frets. Negatives were that I prefer the typical LP 2 vol 2 tone layout and I wanted to see Gibson on the headstock.. haha However, Ive had remorse over that one and you rarely see them for sale, so I guess that in and of itself, says alot. Later similar model LTDs have the big cutaway in the back and such.
Im selling one of my Gibbys as I need the $$ , but considering trying to get another LTD 400at on the cheap if I can.
Anyhow, who has one of these and what say you?

Re: LTD EC400at?

If you liked it that much I think others opinions shhouldn't even come into consideration... Unless you're inquiring about the newer ones? Let's just say that having played a regular ec1000 (first generation, first year of the deluxe ecs) for 5-6 years as my #1, they'd be the first thing I'd buy if I had to letmy LPs go and buy something cheaper.

Re: LTD EC400at?

Thanks! Yeah, I was kinda just fishing for confirmation that my memory wasnt building it up better than it was.. haha. I have a bad problem where when I sell something and I play it a last time, or when I put something up for sale that I think I can part with, it all the sudden seems so much better.. haha Im pretty sure that one was the real deal tho.. I just sold it cuz of the 3 knobs and I thought I needed a gibson instead of an LTD.. They dont make that model anymore and they dont come up for sale too often, so that says something too.

Re: LTD EC400at?

I have an LTD EC-401w. Same basic guitar as your old one except mahogany cap rather than maple and active pickups.

In my opinion, a giggable instrument, straight out of the box. I have changed the pickups a few times. The stock EMG-81/-60 pairing went. Have tried various permutations of EMG-81X, -85X, -HA and SD Live Wire Classic IIs. May have tried a Blackout Metal. Cannot honestly recall.

If you are in the market for this general "LP" type of guitar and price bracket, consider the end-of-line Hamer XT series. The better examples of these are built in the same factory as the LTD.
