Luthiers around? I have a question...

I have this real cheap guitar (Vantage) but the neck plays great and the body made out of 3 piece alder resonates remarkably well. I actually like it's sound plugged and unplugged. I think it was made somewhere in the 80ies.
Problem is, the bolt on neck doesn't join the body very nice, I can stick a few sheets of paper in the gaps on either the left or right side.
Is there a cheap fix for this? Like sticking some thin wood sheets in the gaps?

Is it ourely cosmetic or is the Neck shifting during play? If it´s purely cosmetic I´d leave it alone.

But if the neck is shifting in it´s pocket, put a piece of screen door mesh bbetween it and the body ;)

Zerb's suggestion will keep the neck from shifting. You can also cut a shim to fill the gap between the neck and body if you like...I'm not sure it'll improve the tone tho. It seems to me that the most important contact needs to be made at the butt end of the neck against the neck pocket...not the sides. Lew

Allright, that's what I was wondering, it's mainly cosmetic I think. Doesn't seem to move when playing. I'll try the mesh solution.
Thank you!
