Magnet Change vs Pot Change

So, from what I understand from lurking this forum for some time now, that different magnets (Alnico II, IV, Ceramics) produce different tones, and from what ive seen we change them mostly to shape the high end and upper mids (mostly in the Alnico magnets), but also by using 250k pots or 500k pots we can do the same (or similar). If one wanted to shape the high end on a larger level, what would one choose, and if one wanted to shape the high end on a smaller scale, which would work best?

Re: Magnet Change vs Pot Change

i feel like magnets actually have an effect on the response and amount of a frequency that exists, whereas, a pot just affects the mount, by either eliminating it or letting it pass through. So, i think a magnet probably results in more change

Re: Magnet Change vs Pot Change

Pretty much. Think of pots as passive (which they are) and magnets as more like active electronics. They can boost parts of the freq spectrum as well as cut.
