Zombie thread...
Vow... It's been more than 10 years!

Ha! This is an old thread! I am working on a project right now that I plan to swap the magnet in the Screamin Demon for Ceramic...I will finish the guitar first without the magnet swap and then try it later to see the differences.
The demon with a ceramic is one of my alltime favourite magnet swaps. Right with a custom 8, which is pretty well liked. If you are curious as to the tone: output gets a good bump (which I think is good), the mids get bigger and it gets even tighter, but still doesn't feel brittle or hard underneath the fingers. The demon8 is also cool...just a little "fatter" sounding, with warmer highs and slightly looser (but still tight!) Lows.and
Thanks for the tone info! I'm having it paired with a Dinebucker so I was hoping for a bump in output. My favorite pickups use Alnico V and Ceramic magnets--so I thought the switch would be one I should give a try to bump the output up in the neck to try and get closer to the Dimebucker since past experience shows I like how Ceramic sounds (not that I'm guaranteed to like it in the SH-12, just that I've had great experiences with Ceramic.) Thanks again!
I found the highs to be much more harsh with the 8, not what I would describe as "warm" at all.The demon with a ceramic is one of my alltime favourite magnet swaps. I think with a Dimebucker you would want the ceramic to sure. That is gonna give you the best balance for sure! That actually sounds like a killer rock/metal combo. Post your results when you get a chance to try it!
So I got the Demon and Dimebucker together in the same guitar--love the combo! (1 Piece Walnut body, Mahogany neck with Rosewood board and Gibson scale)
The Dimebucker is a little dark in the neck position and the output is considerably less. I want to lay down a track before replacing the magnet but I wanted some input.
I have three Ceramic magnets and an Alnico 9...I'm tempted to try the 9 because of its characteristics; however, I almost wonder if it would be too shrill... So should I just stick with the Ceramic swap or does it make since being dark to put in the Alnico 9? My thought is that both will boost the output and brighten up the tone...
Anywho, it's an incredible combo--very very VERY articulate combo! Oh and if you love harmonics you will love this combo![]()

I've tried the Demon with A2, UOA5, A8, and tried all the hex screw swaps. I never found anything I liked remotely as well as the original configuration.
So that's where my Demon ended up! Love that body! Lol
Trey, that axe is beautiful brotha! I think you should try the ceramic in the demon. It won't make it inherently brighter, but the extra juice you will get means you can lower it down for brightness while still maintaining good balance with the Dimebucker. You can also try an all hex set up with the demon in the neck....it will suck away some of the bass.
I have a Demon 8 in the bridge of my Yamaha SL-700S (Les Paul copy from the 70s) and it reminds me a of Distortion in ways. The top end is very similar to my ears, but doesn't quite have as big of bass as the Distortion. I also feel that the Demon 8 is a tighter responding pickup than the Distortion. I really dig it! I have read where people will use a 300K volume pot to help reduce the harshness with the Distortion, it makes me wonder if someone used a 300K volume pot with the Demon if it would help round it out some...
I pulled the A5 magnet out of the Demon before I even tried it, so I don't know how the original sounds. I read quite a bit about the Demon in the bridge on this forum and it seems the majority prefer it with the Alnico 8... I could be wrong, but I like the results I am getting. I also really like A8 for the clean tones in the bridge. i usually hate the bridge for clean tones, but the A8 stuff I have used has given me a new appreciation for clean tones in the bridge.

Anyone ever put an Un-oriented Alnico V in the Screamin' Demon? In theory this would be totally cool!!
