Magnets in a P90 sized humbucker

what pup are we talking about? two a4 magnets would typically lower the output and even out the tone a bit. less treble bite

I think our fellow member is talking about his P90 sized DiMarzio TZ.

Below are pics of the one that I had on a shelf... its ceramic magnet seems to be slightly narrower (of 0.5 to 1mm) than the regular bar magnets for humbucker compared to it a few minutes ago.
I vaguely recall to have tried some AlNiCo bars under the coils of this thing so it must be doable. I just don't remember what magnets I had used exactly...
The last pic below shows a P90, for comparison.

...and to reply to the question: AlNiCo bars in a DP210 would increase its inductance and should therefore make it even warmer, albeit less powerful. Still not the solution to change it in an acceptable neck PU. ;-)

yes, i totally read that wrong, i was talking about a humbucker sized p90. disregard everything i said. it doesnt apply to a p90 sized humbucker. my bad.

Misreading can happen to all of us - see the topic here where I was recently talking about a LP Artist while the OP was evoking a LP Artisan: it took me a while to realize that I was wrong. :-P

Anyway, jeremy, your reply is still right: 2 magnets can be found in "sidewinders" P90 humbuckers with a lateral coil on each part of the screw poles. Mojotone Q coils as well as the Fralin model come to my mind as examples of this.
Same thing for the DiMarzio Fantom or Duncan Silencer, if memory serves me: 3 or 4 coils can be found in these models but they still host two magnets, I think...
And stack designs have that too, weither we're talking about the old ones with symetrical coils or about the unbalanced HX design due to Chris Kinman.
Only P90 sized mini-hum's with two rows of poles like the DP210 include one single mag IME / AFAIK. :-)

Since I have also a P90 sized Super Distortion here, I'll check its magnet if time permits (and if I find the courage to dismantle this one too)...

if they are magnets, then pulling those might be a good start to make it work in the neck
