I dealt with Rob Paar at Allstar Magnetics. He said he only wants to sell like $75 worth at a time or more, so that kinda sucks for most people (I ordered 45 magnets, so I made it, but) He said he's got literally millions of guitar sized magnets, A2-3-4-5-6-8 and ceramic, although he said he was out of A6's. I was gonna check those out too, but he said they aren't used very often, so I didnt bother with those. rpaar@allstarmagnetics.com

nah, I've got 30 some guitars and over 90 Duncan's. Actually just ta let ya know, I listened to what you said about A8's in the bridge and A'4's in the neck. Finally got around to trying it, (well the A4/N, the A8 i tried in a custom awhile ago, and i really liked that). Now I tried a JB8, and I'm liking that too, so thanks for the advice bro'.

There's Ceramic 5 and 8? Far out. Wonder what the Invader has? And the Distortion?
The Custom?

Yes, it means that there are 8 different Ceramic GRADES.

Ceramic bars for p'ups are most likely be C8, as there haven't been any request for C5 in the past five years, I've been told.

i read in some gibson propaganda (for the zoot SG) that the 500T uses ceramic 5 for it's mags; given this info i would lean towards the assumption that ceramic 5 is used in the invader and distortion, but i'm obviously not certain... what say you, Pepe?

To use certain grade of magnet, ANY kind of magnet, depends on what's the deal economic with the supplier.

I don't have any actual info on Gibson magnets supplier, but looking at the past I'd say whatever is cheapest. What grade is just an accident. And because ceramics don't get demagnetized the way AlNiCo mags do, it might be that they got a big supply of those mags when they were the cheapest to produce and they've been using'em ever since.

Nowadays(to use as an example), Gibson is publicizing their use of Franklin Titebond glue. This can only mean that their Marketing force it's outsourced.

Duncan, OTOH, has a history to carefully choosing their suppliers, so they've been able to produce their products within the design's specs with great consistency for many, many years.

To close it, I don't like the sound of ceramic magnets in passive guitar p'ups. Never have, never will. That's why I can't give more info 'bout any product using ceramic magnets, as they don't interest me.

So what was the question again...? :naughty: :joke:

Man I do wish I had more time to really dial in all this stuff. I've got all the parts to do my 7th build, and i just never get back to it.
Gotta finish painting the body at this point. Lotta pups sittin' on shelves in the basement (that i dont want to really get rid of). Ain't nuthin' like crunchy screamin' guitars.
