so gibson's original 335 models all have maple body and mahogany set necks.
but most alternative models have maple neck, like epiphone, washburn hb35 and ibanez ArtStar models.
how much difference is there?
I've never played my Sheraton back to back with a 335, but I really like the way it sounds. It's thick and warm, yet clear and resonates very well. Mine has a mahogany center block, FWIW.
My Gibson ES-335 has a 3-piece Maple neck and stock Brass nut, fwiw. She also sports aftermarket SD 59s and they sound great! John Hall (Rickenbacker CEO) has said that the multi-piece necks offer more stability than single piece necks. YMMV.
