Make Your Own Picks

Re: Make Your Own Picks

I use Dunlop .88's, which have beveled edges (which give the sharp bite I need) and raised lettering (that keeps them from slipping out of my fingers). Can you make your own picks like that? I can't play with a regular plain pick.

Re: Make Your Own Picks

It's pretty damn cool. It's more of a novelty, but how cool is it to make picks out of old CD's?

I think they recommend you don't use those, since that material is
brittle and will crack easily. I bought one a few months ago (there's a thread
on here somewhere) and also got some sheets of Delrin and polycarbonate
to mess with.

As others have noted here, one of the drawbacks is that you can't punch heavy
materials--meaning you have to superglue two punched picks together if you
want something in the 1.0 mm thickness range--but since I actually bought this
as more of an artsy/craftsy project, I like the idea of making custom picks with
pictures sandwiched in and sealed with Superglue. And I do keep a lot of picks
made from credit cards and old gift cards around, super handy to keep around
the house! :)
