Making a pickup "see" another pot value from the other?

So I dropped a 1 Meg pot on my Strat. The Duncan Distortion is now perfect. The SDS-1 is way too bright. My neck pickup is now brighter than my bridge!

So what can I do for the SDS-1 to see 500K again? The pickguard only has a hole for a single pot, and I don't want to modify it.

Put a 1M resistor from the switch where the pickup connects to ground.

Can I play with the value? Like maybe 470K if I wanna darken it just a tiny bit, but not as much as 1M?

If you add a 1 meg resistor to a 1 meg pot you end up with a 500K load. 1 meg + 470K would be 319K. https://www.allaboutcircuits.com/tools/parallel-resistance-calculator/

Gotcha! Yeah, too low. Then 1 Meg.
