Making an amp shortlist

FuseG4

Our Neighbor Totoro
Looking for something tube, that can do low volume and loud, that will do cleans with a little dirt and a classic rock to early heavy metal kind of gain. Reverb is a big plus, or fx loop to get reverb pedal later. Combo amp prefered.

Options I'm leaning towards

Peavey Valveking II 20W. I have demo'd it and like it a good bit but it's not stellar. Cheap, very versatile. Decent cleans and decent drive.
Fender Bassbreaker 15. Haven't played this yet but reviews and stuff lead me to believe I'd really like it.
Orange Rocker 15. Same as above, haven't played it, but features look good and sound clips/vids look good. cons: 10" speaker.
Marshall DSL40c. Used to own a DSL50 head. I miss it. I like the low end snap of the bigger tubes i.e. it's not el84. decent cleans, great drive.
Fender SuperSonic 22: I have played one and really liked it. Great cleans and decent drive. cons: more expensive
Or15 and PPC112: Used to own the OR15. Loved it. Cons: cleans are ok, but the drive is excellent! same price basically as the super sonic or a little more.

I also considered the Egnater Tweaker combo, owned one before and I like it but it's a little spongey. And the Super champ X2. really affordable, doesn't need to be cranked, very versatile, but not all tube and I have a Champion 20 still which is very similar, same preamp modeling sounds just all digital/ss and smaller size.

I will be mostly playing in my house and garage out in the country so I can crank these things all at least halfway, but I like quiet practice too.
I like a wide variety of tones but mostly 70s Stones, some Zeppelin, and all eras of Clapton stuff. Guitars are a squire strat and jazzmaster, and epiphone les paul.

Really torn... i think it's down to either the DSL or Supersonic, SS is a bit more expensive but the cleans are so good. Which do I want to focus on, cleans or drive? I used to own a DRRI and the clean sound was addictive. But so was the green crunch channel on DSL. Help me think this through please!

The clean channels of the SS22 and DRRI are nearly the same (according to Fender and to my ear as well). It's a great, versatile amp IMO. While you're looking, check out the Peavey Classic 30 and Delta Blues 115.

As for focus, you can add dirt to clean, but NOT clean to dirt!

Re: Making an amp shortlist

If I could do it over again...

bassbreaker 45

Otherwise from your list I would stick with what I have- DSL40c.

Re: Making an amp shortlist

the 45 looks dope but it looks like the loudest of everything I'm considering, I hear it's still very very loud even on one watt.

But the suggestion made me look even harder at the Bassbreaker 15 while I was looking at the 45.
Reverb that doesn't seem over the top. A well working master volume. fx loop. warm sound but with a bright switch. A more fender clean than the DSL. Hmmmm.
I want to play one but nearest GC is 200 miles (las vegas).

Re: Making an amp shortlist

I'm adding the 68 custom Princeton to the list to consider. I like the normal Princeton very much but the look, the reduced negative feedback, speaker, size and wattage seem very fitting for my taste.

Re: Making an amp shortlist

Blonde ss22 is gonna be it.
Better reverb and clean tones.
May get some marshall flavored pedal at some point.
Gonna order it tonight if i get to the bank in time today ^_^

Re: Making an amp shortlist

pulled the trigger on the blonde ss22.
can't wait... may even show up on friday, i hope i get to spend the weekend with it.
I'm excited... i felt so bad when i had to sell the drri i once had. things are much more stable now. back when i got the drri i almost got the ss22, but somehow i guess i got caught up in the idea that a vintage reissue was somehow a better idea? Should have got this back then, especially back when they did the FSR surf green one.
Vasshu, i was always jealous of that amp you had xD
