i haven't played the hughes & kettner but ive played the TSL and IMHO its just doesnt cut it...

I don't think there's anything the TSL can do that the Triamp can't do or even do better. One of the best amps out there, IMO.

I've played the tri-amp quite a bit, and I would take it over the tsl. The clean channel will do the jazz tone you want no problem whatsoever. The channels are actually like 2channels in one. the two (actually 4 ) different overdrive channels should suite ane distorted needs you have.

WOW! I can't believe there is even a poll for this... is this a joke?

Hmmm... let's compare guys.. What's better, a Bogner Ecstasy 101B or a Peavey Bandit? ;)

H&K hangs with the big boys... Mesa and Marshall don't even come close.

Re: Making the final decision... TSL 100 or Triamp Mk2??

That would depend on what kind of a Marshall it is....
H & K make good stuff, but it still just is a matter of taste on how the amp suits you.

i heard that the dsl blows the tsl off the charts.

Not really, I've played and recorded both. They have very similar tonal characteristics.

Tri-amp or TSL. I agree with Rid, it depends on you. Both are great amps. Which one sounds better to you? Have you tried both? If not, work both out as extensively as you can. Your ears will decide for you. The one thing you should take into consideration is reliability. I would check out reliability issues or lack there with both amps. It doesn't matter how good the tone of an amp is, if it constantly fails on you.

I have had the TSL for the last 2 years, while i do like this amp alot (and no the DSL doesnt blow it, i agree they sound vastly similar, i had both) i find it lacks a certain something. I love the clean channel, but i think where the low point for me is the 3rd channel doesnt offer much more full on sizzle, (gain)
than the 2nd channel. It needs to get a bit more ugly for me, bit more steroids need to be put in the preamp.
I think thats why im off to buy a Rivera KH100.
But guitarists are "always" searching for something illusive....
Time will tell.

OT, but have you tried running an OD pedal at full level, no gain infront of the TSL?

Indeed i have. A G2D Morpheus pedal.
It does work to a certain degree but not the results are was after.
The pedal is more apparent when i turn the gain down on the 3rd channel then push it with the pedal, it is more noticable, not so much when the gain is on 10. Just seems to add more fuzziness to the sound.
Thanks for the advice.
Also want to keep my rig simple, dont want another button to stomp on,
have enough already! :smack:

I've heard bad reviews about the TSL, never got to crank one myself, unfortunately. But I have had the honors of playing the H&K, and I can tell you it shreds!!! Not sure about its versatility - it's cleans are pretty nice too, good headroom and pretty articulate, but the overdrive is nuts!

Thanks to your posts today i went to berlin to play H&K and it killed me with his first souds... Never heard so beautiful cleans and honest killing distortion packed in one head, in this amp there is a JCM800, Plexi, Fender, Vox, it even talks close to Mesa.. so the decision has been made.. Thanks!:D

Haha... told you ;)

Re: Making the final decision... TSL 100 or Triamp Mk2??

Too late for my 2 cents.... ah well. I've gotta say it, no one else did... Marshall cleans can be good rock cleans, but are NOT good Jazz cleans... that's why I got the AC-30/JCM900 combo instead of a TSL100. I tried the TSL and it just didn't sound good clean, to me atleast, so I decided to buying the cheaper marhsall and spend a little more of my money on the Vox. It left me with less spending money for a while, but it was well worth it. I say, go with the H&K.

Re: Making the final decision... TSL 100 or Triamp Mk2??

Wow, bit of a landslide. But a just one i think. The TSL just isnt a good sounding amp as far as i've experienced it and ive heard nothing but good stuff about the Triamp. I really dont like tsl's though, just dont like their tone. But as with everything, its my opinion. Every TSL ive heard about has had constant maintenance issues too, constantly breaking down and stuff, which is never good.
