Man, Depreciation!

I've been holding onto a friends Krank Revolution One head for the past year now, and I was going to see if he wants me to sell it for him and give him the cash.

After looking on ebay for pricing, I come across one that sold for $300, another for $500 and another for $650, luckily, the one for $650 has a close serial number, and the exact same features, so I might be in luck.

But, I remember when he got the head and the cab NEW for $2k.

At those prices, its probably not even worth selling!

Anybody know of any other amp companies that this has happened to?

Well, also happened with my Peavey 5150 cab, I bought that new for $900 and now I see them going for about $350.

I don't think I'll buy anything new from now on!

It happens with most everything. Marshall 1960s are like $900 new and sell for $3-$400 used. Just depends on whhats in and hip I guess

Re: Man, Depreciation!

I don't think the Krank stuff ever really caught on, so their resale is pretty low. I wouldn't have thought it would have been $300 low, but the market is also in the crapper. Not long ago, you couldn't touch an old ADA MP1 for less than $300 and now you see them all the time for half that. It's just the way it is right now. If I had more disposable income, I'd be buying all kinds of crap and sitting on it til the market rebounds. In the last few weeks I've seen a couple Mesa cabs for $350/$400. Not long ago I seen an original block logo 5150 for $350. I tried to get that one, but someone got it before me. My buddy bought another dual recto for $650 and it was one of the earlier ones I believe. Even prices on the high end stuff like Bogner and Engl are coming down. I

It's a buyers market and probably will be for a good while longer. Most people need or want the extra funds, but others either don't have the cash or don't want to come off any cash in case they need it down the road. Unless you got a piece of gear that's "in" right now or something that people know will hold it's value, you're better off holding on to it until you know you're going to make some of your money back.

Cabs are a pain in the butt all the way around and almost never retain their value. They're a PITA and expensive to ship, and unless they're bedroom kings, they almost always get the crap beat out of them. The only real reasons to buy a cab new is for free shipping or for the sake of matching it to your head. Plus there's numerous options out there and there's only so many ways you can build a cab. Sure the Mesa, Marshall, Soldano, Bogner etc... cabs are nice, but there's options like Avatar where you can basically get the same thing for half the cost.

It's become a very frugal market, so you really have to be careful what you're dropping your money on if you even have the slightest possibility of wanting to resale in the future. Krank turned out to not be one of those safe bets.

Dood... it's officially a "HORRIBLE" market right now. I've been slowly selling a lot of things for a couple of friends for a past couple of months and the market is just tanked right now. It's enabled me (as a buyer) to get some awesome deals on gear I wouldn't have sprung for in better times. But geesh... if you're not willing to give stuff away right now you're gonna be stuck with it.

If I was a millionaire right now, I'd probably be picking up a warehouse full of stuff at give-away prices. As it is... my small man-cave is getting crowded again and my wallet it getting light. :D

AMEN bro! I stopped in a shop that I hadn't been to in awhile, but use to frequent, and he said the guitar/bass/drums part of his business has suffered to the point that he said he's not going to be ordering anything new for awhile except for the basic necessities. The internet already tanked a lot of mom and pop shops and with the economy in the crapper, it's just killing them. Good thing for them, they work with a lot of the local school bands, so they have that income to keep them floating.

Re: Man, Depreciation!

Good example. Im gonna go check out a framus 412 with thhe stock v30s for$150. I think they were 9 when they came out

Re: Man, Depreciation!

Yes, the market is terrible.. I need to sell a ton of stuff, but when I list anything, all i get is people sending me messages like : If it doesnt sell, I'll let you give me $100 to take it off your hands... Or Ill give you (about half what my min bid is)

I wish I too was loaded. Id gather a ton of stuff to flip later..

Ive wondered why Kranks arent catching on.. They are solid stuff and the ones Ive heard have sounded good.

9finger, Is $300 a good price for an ADA MP1? What did they go for new?

Re: Man, Depreciation!

It was the going price a couple years ago. Now you can get MP1's for under $200 and I've seen some as low as $100. I don't know what they were when they came out. There's been talks of a reissue, but I've not heard anymore about that.
