Maple neckthough, mahogany body

Hey
I am in the process of building a guitar.
It will be a 2 hum, OFR loaded, neck through king V and it will have 24 frets.

The neck plank is maple, the wings are mahogany, the fretboard is Ebony.

I am looking for two humbuckers, neck and bridge, that will deliver a TIGHT metal tone, I want it to be tighter then a morons mouth stapled shut (Hi 5!).

I really like the tones of the X2N and the Custom 5 in the bridge, but they guitarists who use them have alder winged guitars.

The amp I will be using will be an amp I will build (based on a JCM800 and a 5150).

I will be using a 3-way switch, with a coil tap/split, if that matters.

Thanks for your help

Well when it's maple neck through the maple carries the majority of the tone. You should be able to achieve atleast 12 year old-type tightness as it is with the pickups you mentioned.

My guitar is a ebony board/maple neck-thru with mahogany wings and a white ash top +OFR; very similar to your build, except with an ash top. The guitar is probably the only guitar I've ever liked the JB in. But for what I'm using the guitar for, I'm going to need tighter lows for melodic palm mute riffing. I'm really wanting to try something from the alnico 8 selection of pickups, so I've chosen an alternative 8 as my new pickup. But before I try it, I want to swap an A8 magnet into my JB to see how it goes. I'd say you should try an alternative 8 in that build.

Out of curiosity, how will a Jazz sound in the neck?

@Rydock: How thick is your Ash top? I'm thinking of a maple or bubinga veneer for my V, and was actually thinking about Ash.

It's pretty thick. Don't know the exact measurements, but it's about 2/5ths of the superstrat body.

My #1 favorite axe right now is mahogany with a maple neck. It has a Jazz in the neck. Its a great neck pup. I'll probably never use my own de-mud mod again. Clean and clear but still does distortion well for a nice Santana-ish tone.

(Thats a C5 in the bridge.)

I'm convinced that a Jazz neck and a Full Shred Neck are the same pickup with different
pole pieces. I much prefer the pick attack of the FS.
