Either will work (duh). But they do have different sounds. I like em both. Wood affects your sound a lot and it's really easy to hear clean. For distortion, the thing I notice most is how much bass is in the signal. Maple gives you less bass, rosewood gives you a hair more.

All my guitars have rosewood, and if possible I'd like to keep it that way.

I put some antiquity single coils in a bullet strat. Unfinished maple neck, light basswood body. It's tone city. Who woulda thought that Squier's cheapest guitar would be made out of epic tonewood.
