Maple top?

I want a guitar to get a 311-ish tone. The guitarist uses a guitar with a mahogany body with a maple top. This guitar is mahogany but without the maple top. Will it still be close to the tone of the one with a maple top?

re you talking about Tim or NIck and which of their guitars are you ttrying to cop the tone of? As for a simple answer to your question the maple top would make it a bit brighter and add some sustain but you could get pretty close without it

Re: Maple top?

if you want Tim's sound and don't want to buy a PRS i'd say get a schecter C-1 plus which is Mahogany w/ Flame Maple top so it will be fairly close to a PRS and tons cheaper but still a great guitar...although nothing will be 100% like his asside from a PRS. you can always throw in a set of PRS pickups and you should be able to get real real close to his sound then!

Tim Mahoney, he plays the PRS's

Just for the record the Blue PRS is solid mahogany...no maple at all! BTW...the red PRS (Ol' Red), the natural PRS (Gany), as well as the BLue one (Blue) and all solid mahogany...no maple! Some of his PRS's do have maple tops but you will notice that the all mahogany ones see WAY more use that the others and in his own words " I'm partial to the all mahogany body"
This can all be backed up on WWW.311music.com

Good luck bro

I was gonna say, that is a really sweet looking guitar with a buh-fugly headstock! I'd reshape is with a coping saw, and respray the face solid gloss black. Then stick a chrome 'trucker' mudflap girl sticker on it!

You can also clearcoat the edges of the headstock after you reshape and sand it smooth.
