Market Research question reverb related

Re: Market Research question reverb related

Only if you think Surf Music is making a comeback. :naughty:

I live in Southern California, and believe it or not, surf music is still popular here. But then I've got Dick Dale tickets for a show in a couple of months. :)

Re: Market Research question reverb related

This may seem like a stupid question, but why is a standalone reverb box so expensive, given that many amp builders add reverb tanks for not much additional cost? I assume it is the additional preamp tube circuitry? I mean.... a Fender deluxe reverb is like $1K; if I was going to spend $600 on a standalone reverb why not just spend the extra $ for an amp that had a good reverb in it?

The flexibility would be cool, and adding verb to a dry amp you really loved otherwise might be a plus but $600 is a lot of cash...

The other thing is that, for a built-in reverb, the effect is in a dedicated loop, and your guitar's signal hits the preamp section first. With an outboard reverb head, you're supposed to put it first in your signal chain, before the amp's input. You get a different sound and feel by doing it that way.

Re: Market Research question reverb related

I'd personally like one that can go in the effects loop and footswitchable. I'd even prefer if it didn't have tubes though. As long as you have a good tank and all the controls, I'd love it.

Re: Market Research question reverb related

the stand alones are usually footswitchable. never tried one in a loop though

Re: Market Research question reverb related

Well I'm gonna build one and see what I can do with it.

Re: Market Research question reverb related

hell yeah, ya should! i got my fender unit back when i had my bassman and it was nice to have reverb when the volume was low. sounded great on the bright channel.

for a while i was running the guitar into bright 1, from bright 2 into the reverb tank and the output of that into normal 1 so i could have the bright channel run up a little to break up and blend in the reverb with the normal channel and keep that clean. it was fun and sounded great but wasnt practical for gigs
