MArshall 1w: dsl1, jcm 1, dsl5

Re: MArshall 1w: dsl1, jcm 1, dsl5

None of them. I have played all of the 1w Marshalls a lot. I played the DSL's just so that I could see what the new foreign stuff was like. They all pretty much suck if you think about it. The 1w amps seem cool at first, but they're watered down versions of the real things. The Haze 40 sounds better than any of the new DSL's in my opinion. I have a UK made DSL50 and none of the foreign DSL's sound as good. I'm sorry to tell you but Marshall has gone south. Besides their more expensive reissue and handwired series, the only UK-made Marshalls are the JVM's which are cool but that's all we've got to choose from. Pay those prices for any Marshall and you will have paid too much when all the boutique guys are getting so competitive. Your best bet is the Class 5. It's actually a pretty decent, affordable Marshall.

The only demo of any of the 50th Anniversary 1 watters that I've heard and liked was one by this guy Eddie Vegas. He played a LP through a JMP-1 and it sounded pretty decent. It was nothing like the old JMP's but it didn't sound bad for a practice amp.

Honestly, there are so many great sounding pedals available these days for when you need crunch at lower volumes. Even tube pedals. I don't see the point in a 1 watt tube amp. I loved those Blackheart 5 and 15 watters, but mostly as platforms for pedals.
