Marshall 30th Anniversary Cabinet content...and more!

Hi everyone.

I want to report on my recent activites. We thought we were going to have to pay quite a lot in taxes this year. To our surprise, we only had to pay a little bit (a grand) so we had quite a bit left over. My wife wanted to invest the money, so I said "yeah, I know just what to invest in---MARSHALLS!"

Since I don't spend money on ANYTHING except music gear once in awhile, she was cool with it. I've also showed her how these amps have appreciated over the last ten years.

The first thing I picked up was The Silver Jubilee combo. Then I got a blue tolex, white logo Anniversary 6100 from a forum brother. Very cool amp. I bought that 73 50 watt head from my friend. May be the best sounding Marshall I've ever heard in person, it's that good. Also got a 73 100 watt, a 73 artiste (on its way) and a 77 50 watt that sounds so surprisingly good!

Little by little I'm selling off all the stuff I've accumulated over the years that just sits so I'm not really spending this cash, I'm only borrowing it.

I just got this today. It was about an hour and a half from my house. The fellow had put it on ebay today in pieces with the speakers buy it now and the casters and cab ending later in a straight auction. I emailed him and asked him if he would sell it to me for one price so I didn't buy the speakers, then maybe lose the auction for the cab or casters. He asked for $500 and I drove down and got it. Made a family day out of it. What do you think? It's got the original G12H-75 speakers and he put a Mesa Boogie single recto through it to show me it worked with a Les Paul studio. The tone knocked me on my butt. The cabinet sounded fantastic but the problem NOW is that I want a Mesa Boogie, lol. Wow, what an amp. Completely different animal from a Marshall, but god the full rich harmonics and power was intoxicating.

Pardon the messy floor, but neither the cab nor the floor look that bad in person. After seeing the pics I'm cleaning the floor now, lol. Anyone have any good ideas on how to clean the grill? I'll take out the speakers but what would be a good way to clean it without removing color?

Nice........... I almost bought a head that matched it not to long ago. I balked on it though I heard they sound awesome, but can be problematic. Good Luck with all the new toys!

The one with the brass logo or the white plastic? The tech who works on my amps says the combos are the ones with the big problems. The heads he says only come in for normal tune-ups and stuff. Hope my amp isn't the first to break that string, lol.

That's a great deal for $500, since regular black ones usually go for that.

To clean the grill, try using the soft brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner and gently brush it while sucking out any dust. Also you can use a damp lint free towel to wipe it. Just don't soak it.

No the one I was looking at was the white plastice in blue. I think they made 3 versions of this. The Brass, The White with Blue Tolex, and The White with black Tolex.

I don't have a lot of experience with disassembling the Cab, but if possible I would remove the grill and try a strong solvent on the inside to make sure it won't damage the grill cloth.

Its nice to know that the heads are more solid. I will keep my eyse open for one. This looks like a older version of a Bogner Xtacy.

Thanks for the tips fellas. I cracked open the back and all looks original, except the speakers are 16 ohm. I just read somewhere that the Anniversary amps had 4 ohm speakers, so these may not be the originals. Of course, that means the ohm settings in the back would be wrong so I've got to be sure of that. That logo is solid brass though. And it sounds great which is all that matters.
