Marshall 6100 head....

That old amp that has three versions to it if I remember correctly!
Got a blue one on my hands, belive it has EL-34's....
And if I remember correctly again...it uses friggin' MIDI for channel shifting....doh!
But anyone here who has one of these old things???
92 is suddenly along time ago now;)
At the shop we have repaired a few of those....but it was so long ago that I hardly can remember much as it is now....
Could be fun to have a big Marshall again(kinda miss the whole kick in your pants thing from time to time!)

Re: Marshall 6100 head....

Does your blue 1 have the gold coloured Marshall logo?

There was the normal black version, the blue version and then an anniversary version that had the gold coloured logo if I remember right?

I've only played 1 briefly a long time ago but I think each of the 3 channels each had 3 or 4 modes each? If they controlable by MIDI then that has the potential to be a really versatile amp.

Re: Marshall 6100 head....

Nah was not the brass version, handwired and all....just your normal white logo.
Yeah there are options for each channel, all three sounded best on their own as far as memory serves me....has some input filtering that can be added as well...
Easy to use...but man it has been a "few days" since I tried one:D

Re: Marshall 6100 head....

If I remember right there are actually 2 versions of these electronically the first version had issues with gain on the 3rd channel that was corrected later. Man I would love to get my hands on another one these was one of my favorite Marshalls.

Out of curiosity I looked it up and yeah there are the LE and LM versions the brass and the blue are all the LE and all use EL34's the black ones started with EL34's later they got 5881's then after that they added the LM version to them.

I'd love to own a 6100 one day. I played one years ago in a shop and the crunch channel was one of the best I've heard up to today!

Re: Marshall 6100 head....

It's 1 of the Marshalls I'd like to get my hands on again, I may have to keep my eyes open but I bet they go for more than the £400 I could've snagged 1 for years ago :(

Re: Marshall 6100 head....

I had one for about 3 years and sold it recently. It did many things well, but my JMP-1 does them all better, and a whole bunch more.

Re: Marshall 6100 head....

up until I switched to /13's around a year ago, these were my main amps, I have 3 of em! There should be a footswitch that comes with it with 1, 2 & 3 on it, though it has midi, you don't been it to change channels!

Stunning amps!

Re: Marshall 6100 head....

I wanted one so bad when they came out, just way outta my price range.. That and I know NOTHING about midi. But from what I gather, it was supposed to be a killer amp..

Re: Marshall 6100 head....

Well changed four caps in the preamp today, they where all bulging and such....
Anyways.....if I am to go and buy that blue one I found, I'm none to sure if I like the way it is made.....some funny methods was used, first mod would be to chassis mount the preamptubes, and find a better way to secure the powersupply printcard...
But it sure sounds good for the price and such.
