would a marshall avt 50 head be compatible with a 2x12 mesa recto cab? IM somewhat unsure about geting the avt cab marshall offers but would rather have a mroe reliable better soudning cab. SO would i be ablke to hook up a Marshall AVT 50 head to a mesa/boogie 2x12 recto cabinet? Is there such thing as certain cabs that won't work with amp heads?

Thanks for the help in advance

Re: Marshall AVT + Mesa cab?

Some cabs will sound better with some amps than others, but there's no deal like trying to use Ford parts in a Chevy or anything like that. You need to find out the Ohm ratings of the cabinet (I have a Mesa cab and it's 8 ohms, but YMMV) and make sure the amp has the corresponding output. Both the cab and the amp will most likely give you that info. That's all you have to worry about in terms of compatibility; how good it sounds to you is all you have to worry about after that.

Re: Marshall AVT + Mesa cab?

just match up the ohm rating... make sure the cabinet is the same ohm load as the head is rated for avt cabs are 8 ohm's so if you find a cabinet that is 8 ohms you will be all set

if you don't match them you won't have the full output of the head going to the cabinet

Re: Marshall AVT + Mesa cab?

and you can hurt the OT/ speakers if you do it in the long term heh

but hey - surely seeing how much mesa stuff costs, wouldnt perhaps a used JCM head give you a better sound in the long run? just a thought, but thats what id be considering in the UK. then again, marshall stuff is comparively cheaper, and mesa the complete opposite heh

Re: Marshall AVT + Mesa cab?

hmm apparently the avt head are all 4 ohms? on the site it says that. All a mesa 2x12 recto cab is only 8 ohm. meaning i cant use them?
