Marshall DSL 50 VS Mesa Single Rectifier

What's your guys' opinions? I'm gonna be looking for a new head within the next couple of weeks, the Line 6 is always cutting out on me in the middle of gigs and I can't take it anymore. I've already had it repaired once for blowing. Digital, Yuck! Anyways I'll be playing a SG w/ Duncans or an Explorer with EMG's most likely. I play metal/punk/hardcore riffs and **** mostely. I like a good clean. I like tones anywhere from Strung Out to new Sum 41. I have a Marshall 4x12 cabinet w/ Vintage 30's in it. I like high-high's and low-low's if that makes any sense. An amp that you can feel in your stomach when you're palm-muting at gig volume levels. Thanks for any input guys!

i would g with a mesa because it has two independant channels. ALso because mesa is mroeknown for its distortion, than marhsall is. sum 41 uses marshalls though just to let you know.

What.the.****? :laugh2: Pardon me while I go play my Marshall clean... :laugh2:

Anyways, I think you'd be more happy with the Rectifier.

well i meant it more in the sense of super chunky distortion, marhsall seems more like a classic rock tone to me, mesa seems mroe like that new age distortion. no need to laugh mr guitar god of all "trades" geez.

Do I sense a bit of heat?

(No you didn't search the word heat)

Not really, im just sick of people attitudes. NO need for sarcasm. Give me a stupid answer and ill give one in return.

Re: Marshall DSL 50 VS Mesa Single Rectifier

Give it a rest you guys!

I'd actually go with neither, but if I had to choose the Single Recto would be more of what you're looking for

Looks like I'm not the one with the ****ty attitude. My reply was quite apt, given the ignorance exhibited in your reply. By your logic, a Lamborghini is more known for speed than a Ferrari, when the fact is that they are both in the business of racing. Of course, they do things differently, but that doesn't make one necessarily better than the other. You simply pick which car is more in tune with your personal ideology.

Yes, you just got served, but that's no reason to act like a whiny bitch about it. :burnout:

I agree. From what you've said, I think you'll enjoy the mesa more.

Actually, I quite like the cleans on the DSL 50... they're not that bad :wall:

There are always exceptions to the rule. :) Obviously, there are times when a person must drive their Ferrari under 60 mph...they just don't brag about it! :laugh2:

Re: Marshall DSL 50 VS Mesa Single Rectifier

Well ive never played the Mesa but own a DSL50 and i think it's a ***kin' great amp, It's definitly a very versatile amp, you can go from plexi to jcm 800 with a few twists of the knobs, and with the DSL you can get alot of modern high gain tones too :laugh2: . I quiet like the Clean on it too, theres alot of headroom in it. I believe that sum 41 use marshalls, if not the DSL's but not sure on that, I know that alot of these new bands coming out use Mesa's but really the best way to decide is to try out the two and see which you like better..
I reviewed the DSL 50 on a thread a good while ago. Do a search in the forum for it, I believe it was in a threaD posted by STRATDELUXER

gOOD lUCK

Re: Marshall DSL 50 VS Mesa Single Rectifier

Jake Kiley from strung out uses a rackmount compressed mesa dual rectifier and Rob Ramos uses a Peavey 5150. I think the Mesa will suit your style well, and the marshall can too. You just need to get out and try them both and see which you like or at least listen to clips of them. Another suggestion would be a Rivera Knucklehead(sorry for the plug, I'm selling mine...too loud for an apartment) for loads of versitility. You can hear some amp clips here www.chrissnider.net/amp_clips/.
Good luck bro!

And if your not interested in the Rivera DO NOT LISTEN to TwilightOdyssey. :laugh2:
He'd have you all over one in a second

Re: Marshall DSL 50 VS Mesa Single Rectifier

If you're considering a Mesa Single Rectifier, also look at the Rectoverb series. Extremely versatile amp, and it has onboard reverb as well.

Re: Marshall DSL 50 VS Mesa Single Rectifier

I was in the market for the DSL50 when it first came out. I didn`t like it so I got the Dual Rect and now, years later have the Single Rect. Awesome amp! Does everything.

Re: Marshall DSL 50 VS Mesa Single Rectifier

I'd like to apologoize for my rudeness last night, i was having a very bad night, actually i had to sort out a vicsiou fight between my parents and my sister, was quite an ordeal. I guess it ook his saracsm too seriously, sorry about that

Re: Marshall DSL 50 VS Mesa Single Rectifier

BUT there no need for you to act all high and mighty. No i did not get served, and quite frankly i could not care less.

Re: Marshall DSL 50 VS Mesa Single Rectifier

high highs and low lows, eh? -sounds like you need a recto.

If you're at all concerned about mids, get a Marshall. A marshall will always cut through a mix better than a recto.
