Marshall DSL50 or Peavey Valveking

Re: Marshall DSL50 or Peavey Valveking

All good advice above. I don't have much experience with the Valveking, but the DSL 50's are excellent amps. I haven't heard much about reliability issues with them...more the TSL and the DSL COMBO's.

Over at the Marshall Amps Forum, many of the guys think the DSL is the best sounding Marshall made since the Plexi's. Even the Moderator/Founder of the Marshall forum plays a DSL50, and from many of his posts it sounds like he's played EVERY Marshall made.

DSL's have a great clean channel, and the distortion covers the ranges you need...and then some. There are some great sounding JCM800 channel switching models, but of the one's I've tried (stock), the DSL clean channel blows away the JCM800 clean channel. Turn the JCM800 to ten on gain and master, and I think it beats the DSL dimed....but who can play that loud, right? GENERALLY, JCM800 channel switching amps need some tweeking and modding to get the best out of them.

I think the DSL is a great amp, and the value is good as well. Good luck.

Re: Marshall DSL50 or Peavey Valveking

base on so-called statistics @ my localstore, there are 2 valvekings and 1 DSL50 available. The DSL50 was gone eversince I've been there some weeks back and the valveking are still there.
So perhaps the Marshall ? =P

Anyway the valveking was there for about 1 yr or so already

Re: Marshall DSL50 or Peavey Valveking

great feedback guys, I guess it comes down to me hunting both amps to try out! I actually heard somewhere that if I took two of the power valves from the valveking, I could reduce the output to 50w? or is that madness??

thanks again for the help!!

Re: Marshall DSL50 or Peavey Valveking

if you buy the marshall, dont bother with a quad box. I bought a 1936 marshall twin box, not so heavy to lug around and still plenty loud.

I have TSL60 head, which is similar to DSL50, and it sounds tops. Cleans are awesome and I get the full range of distortion. I put a maxon OD9 in front of the amp and it sounds killer.

It is perfectly doable with some amps but not all. I have no idea if the ValveKing is one of them though so I would advise contacting Peavy's support and asking them specifically if you can do it to that amp.
