Marshall Jackhammer test

DankStar

Her Little Mojo Minion
just did a quick test to illustrate the difference in sound between the distortion side and OD side of the Marshall Jackhammer pedal.

yes, this is probably the dumbest nu metal type riff I could have possibly come up with for this test. a little out of tune, I know. I'm lazy.

(used randall combo on clean channel, line out, amplitube 2 speaker cab):

distortion side (obviously darker, kinda more muffled. has a heavy vibe though):

OD side (sits in a mix better):

they might sound good together, but don't have time tonight to fool with that.

Neat sounding Pedal- I'd never heard one prior. I happen to like the Distortion side better based on your clip. The "OD" side sounds like the late 1980s when heavier metal bands (e.g. Metal Church) were trying to get "brootal" sounds out of 800s with peds in front instead of that LA Hair Metal tone everyone else was using.

The Distortion side was tighter and actually had a "solid" edge compared to the thin top end sound of the OD.

Thats my overly analytical "Sunday Morning not enough coffee yet" assessment :D

Re: Marshall Jackhammer test

I was digging the OD side more. It was more chewy and open. Sounds like a bad ass pedal

Re: Marshall Jackhammer test

Is this after modification, like you, John, and I talked about? Or is this bone stock? And can you give a bit of detail about the guitar and amp? Thanks for the clips, by the way!

Re: Marshall Jackhammer test

My admittedly untrained ear tells me this pedal has been modded. The stock distortion side couldn't possibly sound that good. And John, I agree with you. Thanks again for playing around with that cap, because I'm convinced you nailed it on the value.

Re: Marshall Jackhammer test

thanks for checkin it out and commenting guys!

the riff is slanted a bit towards the distortion side of the pedal with the chunks on E and all. with an "open" ac/dc or g-n-r type riff, the OD side would definitely win over (that test is for another day though, hehe).

i chose not to mod my pedal - mainly cause I actually like the stock version, at least when I use it with my randall, especially with heavy riffs. I do have to crank the treble on the pedal and the amp. further eq-ing could be done in the mix of course.

guitar was ibby rg550 with a duncan distortion.

Thanks.....I always trust my own ears!

Re: Marshall Jackhammer test

I thought that distortion side sounded a little better than it should have. :D

Sounds great man! Cool riff too!

thanks b2d! I think I created a good riff for a female pro wrestler to use as her intro music.

Re: Marshall Jackhammer test

What amps are the rest of you running the Jackhammer through? I remember it sounding great through an old peavey classic 30 I had.
