Erik, get that cab of yours home! We need recordings! Or else you'll have to do it Odie, we need to prove that all the hype is not just words with nothing backing it up :laugh2:

Not that I don't believe it though, but some people might not. :yell:

Re: Marshall JCM900 MkIII Info

Well, if my brother-in-law and I end up jamming this coming weekend, I'll see about dragging my 4-track and mic over there and cut a few clips. My office/music room is too small to get good sounding recordings with it. His garage is better.

Clips just do not do it justice!!! I can listen to the SD site of different pickups and it dosent capture the true mojo of said pickup!! This amp is no different!!! Patience my friend!!!! LOL!!!!!!

BTW, I do not spew hype!!!!! If I did, I would be telling everyone to get a JB!!! LOL!!!!!!! :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: This amp is not "hype"!!!!! I can assure you of that!!!!! :beerchug:

Re: Marshall JCM900 MkIII Info

You know what? I think we should write JB on his gravestone when he dies, just to piss him off :laugh2:

If you do that I am going to haunt you so damn bad!!!!!! LOL!!!!

Re: Marshall JCM900 MkIII Info

I can live with that, because when your ghost comes around I'll just turn on the amp, and plug in a guitar loaded with a JB and your ghost will be gone in splitseconds. :laugh2:

Re: Marshall JCM900 MkIII Info

Erik, that's a great write up. I'm going to have to stay away from it though, or I'll start GASsing for a 900 again. I'm trying to fix a JCM 2000 for a guy I work with and he said he'll make me a great deal on it if I can fix it. It's not a 900, but it's closer than my Blues Jr. :laugh2:

Re: Marshall JCM900 MkIII Info

Oh, this is fun. :laugh2: I see Dave as a vampire and the JB as garlic or a crucifix...:lmao:

Richard: Thanks. I haven't played a JCM2000 in a while. I may have to do some looking in to those just to stay on top of things. I love my MkIII and will never part with it. Hopefully I can snag the 2500 too at some point.

Well, he had it at with a local tech for about six months and the guy never did anything with it, so he took it to another local guy that's supposed to be good with Marshalls. He said a couple of pots were bad, but Marshall wouldn't sell them to him. It sounds like it should be an easy fix, but he just brought it to me yesterday, and I haven't had time to try it out.

Re: Marshall JCM900 MkIII Info

I've been doing some more research on the MkIII amps the last couple days and even though I haven't come across anything new, I have come across a few places that have described these amps very wrongly or inconsistantly, both the MkIII and SL-X.

Here's what I found with my response below:

1. The MkIII Master Volumes and SL-X share the same pre-amp as the Dual Reverbs.
- FALSE. This is so false it's not funny. The schematics are nowhere near being close. Very different preamps.

2. There are 3 tubes in the pre-amp (4 in the SL-X)
- Much to everyone's dis-belief, this is false. There are really only 2 tubes in the pre-amp of the MkIII, 3 in the SL-X. The 3rd tube in the MkIII and 4th in the SL-X are the phase inverter, which is actually after the pre-amp and right at the beginning of the power amp section.

3. The MkIII sounds thin.
- Now this one is just silly. Many times people forget that thinness doesn't necessary come 100% from the amp. The speakers, the type of enclosure (open or closed back), the guitar, pickups, all of these things come in to play so to whether the amp sounds thin or not. Tell ya what, mine sounds anything but thin.

4. This one is clarification on my part in case I've told anyone else wrongly. I apologize now. The SL-X does have an all-tube pre-amp. There are no diodes that I can see on the schematic. However, acquiring one with EL34's is best if you want one.

Re: Marshall JCM900 MkIII Info

WOW!!!! That would be a great amp for someone!!!!! If I had the extra cash I would snatch it up in a heartbeat!!!

Aren't most amp listed with all the pre-amp tubes and the phase inverter, by most companies. Cause I always see for 4 pre-amp tubes listed for most 100w marshalls, but they mention there one that is the phase inverter. So you fact is more a claifification for everyone who forgets the tubes include the phase inverter.

Re: Marshall JCM900 MkIII Info

yeah...I've been watchin ebay for 900s the past sev days...thats' def nice...there was a nice MKIII combo (50 watt) there a day or two ago...not sure if it still is...mostly Dual reverbs tho

That's very true. And you're right, very much a clarification. They say X number of pre-amp tubes because really, that is what they are, pre-amp tubes, and it just so happens that the same type is used for the phase inverter, and most common folks buying amps don't know what the heck the phase inverter is or does. So, rather than confuse by specifying that, they just say 3 x 12AX7 or 4 x 12AX7.
