Marshall JMP Superlead MKII?

Re: Marshall JMP Superlead MKII?

$550 for that amp is dirt cheap.

That amp has collector value...it's 34 years old! The work that has been done on it so far falls under maintenance though the loss of the original power transformer does ding the value a bit. A collector would still be interested in it.

There are two distinct markets for this amp...musicians looking at it for the sound it produces and collectors/investors looking at it for its collectible and appreciating value. If you have it modded, the latter group will no longer be interested in it. It may have the same theoretic value but the number of interested parties is reduced significantly. Its true value would then be determined by the much smaller group of musicians looking for the sound it produces.

Re: Marshall JMP Superlead MKII?

Kitchen sink includes the C45, BE, and HBE mods, right? I really don't care to have the C45 and could easily live without the HBE; but I'm sure a conversation with him will pin down exactly what I want.

Realized the replacement was the power tranny, so the output should still be original. We'll see though!

Correct, but the more options you get the better really.

I am not a "high gain" guy, and I use the BE, C45, and Fat switch together the most.

The KS, and add both the Fat and Sat switch. That seems to be the best combo unless you have something specific in mind.

Dave's amp business has blown up, and I would not be surprised to see him stop doing mods and concentrate on his own amps within the next year. Get one while you can, and you will never loose money.

Look what Bogner modded Marshalls bring these days. :scared:

Re: Marshall JMP Superlead MKII?

I'll have a bit of time (2-3) months before I drop it off at Friedmans, gotta save for a bit. That'll give me time to decide on which mods I want.

Ayrton, do you have AIM or MSN? I'd love to pick your brain on the mods a bit, really curious on APC vs Naked vs Kitchen Sink.

Re: Marshall JMP Superlead MKII?

I'm picking it up next week - it's on the drive between my home and uni, and I'm heading home next Thursday for President's weekend.

No, but I have this thing called a cellular telephone. It is really cool, it bounces electromagnetic waves off satellites to transfer voice calls around the world. :D

I have two amps modded by Dave.

My '73 superlead has the KS, and a Fat switch

The '93 superlead has the KS, Cantrell, Fat, Sat, loop, line out, and a 6 way gain cut.

Re: Marshall JMP Superlead MKII?

Your picking it up next week... I hope it's still there when you go to get it next week. LOL

Re: Marshall JMP Superlead MKII?

The best part is Dave's place is down the road for you, so stop in and listen to all the amps. I wish I could stand there while Dave tweaked on an amp for me.

Re: Marshall JMP Superlead MKII?

Does anybody here have a link to Dave Friedman's webpage or Marsha Amp's? I googled both and can't seem to find anything.

Re: Marshall JMP Superlead MKII?

Aside from mods, a good OD/Dist pedal in front of it will give you the base Marshall tone with all the gain you're looking for.

Turn that thing up to 4 with a Way Huge Green Rhino in front of it, and you'll not only have the gain, but also a way to control the size of the sound.

Agreed, exhibit A...

Re: Marshall JMP Superlead MKII?

Ayrton,
That was mighty Lychenesque!!! with a touch of Vitto Bratta, loved it dude !!! Allthough my modded AOR is in this territory, you clip reminds me why still want a JMP.

Re: Marshall JMP Superlead MKII?

Sorry for not updating, guys. He ended up selling it to some poor schmuck locally for the originally advertised 800 price, and I just did not want to spend that kind of money on it.

Re: Marshall JMP Superlead MKII?

I have a master volume model from late 79 that I love. With no master I'm thinking you won't be able to push the gain but that's still no reason not to love this amp. The clean tones on it are big and round and really nice.

If you're looking for something else then this might not be your cup of tea but it's a nice amp and a good price.

BTW I had to convert mine back to original and it cost about $250 but that was a few years ago. It was worth it in my opinion but the amp only cost me $200. It had torn tolex, no logo and was modded into something to sound like a JCM 900.

I really wouldn't sweat that too much, unless you put a sticker over the missing serial number, it was bound to be a problem at some point.
