Marshall Plexi, Power Rangers Theme...? - Bareknuckle VHII Bridge

I think this clip shows the characteristics of the pickup much better than all the other clips I did - this is a lot closer to what I hear coming out of my amp. Turn your speakers up to move some air, when the speakers are fairly loud the pickup shines through the mix more.

I'm guessing this is something like how the theme goes, it's probably over a decade now since I actually watched Power Rangers

• Marshall 1959slp reissue - I swapped the circuit board with a PTP one, changed the OT to a Metroamp Dagnall clone and lowered the preamp filtering. Also I added a PPIMV and replaced the preamp tubes with 2 NOS Sylvania's and 1 Valvo 12ax7
• 1960A cab with 2 G12T-75's and 2 G12M-25 reissues

Killer tone I had no idea a 1959 could get that heavy but I guess the mods explain it.

The amp in this clip is actually extremely close to an actual 1959 that existed between late 1967 and mid 1968, the amp doesn't have the gain mod I put in engaged in this clip, and the only mods done to the stock circuit are personal preferences that wouldn't really make it sound any heavier.

What volume did you have the amp at?

On the PPIMV, it was set to just below 2 (out of 10) - that's a reasonable bedroom volume level, I was sat right next to the amp with some earphones plugged into the multitrack hearing the mic'ed up signal, and the sound of the amp didn't bleed through - I could hear the mic'ed signal perfectly. If you had a solid state practice amp that didn't change the tone whatever volume it was, my amp was at the normal level you'd probably set that practice amp at.

At the point just where the master volume is turned up from 0, just where the signal starts to come out of the speakers - the amp sounds very good even at that level!

What does a PPIMV (Post Phase Inverter Master Volume?) do better then a regular master volume?

It's placed AFTER the phase inverter (V3 in a plexi), and usually most of the distortion that people associate with the power amp is generated in the phase inverter. It sounds a LOT better than a preamp master volume, it doesn't have that thin/buzzy sound.
