I just sold the Peavey Valveking to JumpMarine....

So I'm kind of "stuck" with the crate, but I'm very satisfied, I like the size, the power and the 3l84 tone from this little puppy. I will surely be investing in some Peavey Scorpion Speakers as well.

There is one lesson I learned the hard way when I was young- You can spend alot of time,money and energy chasing your tail in a circle trying to get something to do or sound.....just like a (fill in the blank)... and the lesson I learned was-get what you wanted in the first place. Even if you have to wait for it. And you will never be truly happy until you get what you wanted anyway.
If you want the Marshall sound, there is only one way to get it- Get a Marshall, and at the least- some sort of Celestion speakers to go with it-you don't have to spend the money on a Marshall Cabinet-any decent cab loaded with Celestions will work fine-but, you must remember the Marshall sound is not just a head, not just any speaker- it is the combination of both.

Thanks Marvar, I've already got a cab with celestions, but may end up changing them out with Peavey Scorpions for the Tom Morello-esk tone I seek, we'll see what happens.

Dude if you do get the Scorpions, you need to let me know how well you nail Morello's tone. I've been looking into Scorpions myself, but I dont have the funds right now to buy them, and I wouldnt want to compete with you for anything on ebay. So you get yours first, and let me know how they sound! :laugh2:

I've been thinking about a head/cab rig and that might be a good way to go. Have you tried any distortion pedals through the clean side? Does it take them well?

I have heard that it takes them well, but all I've tried is my Wylde overdrive, it does take my overdrive very well, I know that much.

Anyone play one of those handwired marshalls, specifically the 2061x? I was kind of dissapointed that it had el-84s and not el-34s, but i guess that's how they made them back in the day.

they sound more marshally than voxy (the 1974x/2061x)

I normally do not like EL84s at all..but there are a few amps that don't try to do the vox thing that use them. Gibson...marshalls...even peavey classics..
